Apparently there’s quite a bit of hype around this place and when we got there, we realized why. Packed to the brim even in the middle of the week, with a comfortable, un-fussy setting and one of the most exotic menus I have ever seen. Unfortunately, all this was marred by our food arriving really, really late. The staff was most apologetic, but that doesn’t really help when the experience has got marred.
I think this is a fun place to come every now and then. The food isn’t overwhelmingly good but it’s different and kind of a fun place to land. it’s open and bright inside, regardless of what time of day or what the weather is like. i think it’s a bit of a mood changer there.I usually grab a friend and we order a thali to split, along with another couple of dishes to try. The thali, an assortment of smaller dishes, is even for a taste or two, but not going to be hoovering material if you really love it. Invariably, someone loves one portion and gives up another portion to another individual. Good cocktails and there is patience from the staff when you try to order.
It is really an experience, not only are you able to order a plate with so many different flavors, textures, and tastes, but it is also fun to go as a group, and with everyone ordering a different Thali, you feel as you are truly feasting. Don’t forget the dessert thali’s, they are just as inventive and exciting as the entree. Thoughtful wine lists, strong cocktails, and sophisticated service.
I’ve stopped into Poppy twice, once for apps and cocktails and the last for dinner. Our first encounter with poppy was good, innovative, executed well, but our opinions were just on apps and cocktails. Our dinner encounter fell through. My other half and I ordered an app and three different entrees. I believe the app again executed well, but the dinner dishes were not.I applaud the dream of innovation but the end dish told a tale of innovation without a solid foundation. You have to walk before you crawl. This restaurant went from the womb to a marathon. mounivong.blogspot.com
The food is amazing! The thali plates are all elegantly designed so each flavor complements one another perfectly! I highly suggest everyone stop in! Worth every dime!
Poppy’s menu is great, but food this time was disappointing.. Since moving to Seattle in September, I have been to Poppy’s four times. The first three times were superb. Last evening was not up to standard, though my friend and I ordered the same items as the last time she was in town (Appetizer: avocado and grapefruit salad with hazelnuts and nan bread; duck breast dinner). Great menu, but I’ve lost confidence to make the choice again for a guest.
