I’m a regular here. The food is always consistently tasty, filling, and satisfying. And the service is generally speedy, which I feel is important. Love the pad thai, definitely the best I’ve had!

Poor service, pad see iw was too tangy. Satay was good but it’s hard to mess up satay.

We decided to try Bankok Thai last night because Phonthip is closed on Sundays. Next time I will wait for Phonthip to open. We had the Pad Thai, Pad Kee Mao, and Tom Ka. The chicken in the Tom Ka was overcooked and very dry. Which is saying something when it comes to soup. Both noodle dishes were very oily and the noodles themselves were mushy, not dense and chewy like they should be. The end result was that both noodle dishes were a big squishy brown mass. All three dishes were overly sweet and lacking in other flavor. The food was disappointing all they way around. I would not go here for good Thai food.

Very bland and generic.. This is the kind of Thai place I hate. I live just down the street, and every night this place has customers, and I’m sure some of those are return customers (statistically they can’t all be first timers), and I have to wonder if they keep going to this place just because it’s more exotic than Zips or Olive Garden. I wonder if these customers would like to actually get some good Thai food, like from Thai on 1st that is just downtown or Phonthip; both places much, much, much better than Bangkok Thai. I try not to be snooty about food, because I get that different people like different things and maybe people don’t necessarily want authentic, good Thai food (just like the generic Americanized Chinese restaurants are popular, but not really good, but shrug). It does frustrate me, though, because the food here was SO bland I almost feel forced into a stance of snobbery and every time I pass–and there’s no way in hell I’d actually go in to eat–I want to let the patrons know what they’re getting isn’t actually good Thai food. Hell, it’s really not even good food in general. This place was so expensive and so bland that I feel I was wronged personally to the point I should warn the masses. Okay, maybe a bit dramatic, but ugh, I went there after craving some Thai really badly one day, not being able to find Phonthip for the first time (later found it and was amazed), and still the place couldn’t satiate my need for Thai. My massaman curry tasted worse than the stuff I make at home with pre-made paste; like they used commercially bought paste, but not even the good stuff. It was bland, the meat tough/rubbery. Potatoes flavorless. Just not good. Can’t recall which appetizer we even got, as it wasn’t particularly memorable. Not memorably bad, at least, but tasted like a frozen package of something you could get at Trader Joe’s (so, good frozen, but bad still?). My partner got some kind of bbq/spiced chicken that sounded good, but the wording didn’t lead us to believe it would be a half chicken, bones and all. Not usually a big deal, but she’s got a thing about bone-in-chicken, so it wasn’t ideal. The taste wasn’t too bad, but the chicken was dry and rubbery as well (theme of the night). The service was less than ideal. We got there latish, but nowhere near closing time. We would have been OUT by closing time had the service not been dreadful despite only two other tables occupied (orders already out or on the way as we started). And then, despite the service taking forever and keeping us there, we were repeatedly given the are-you-almost-done look as the server would alternate between standing at the hostess podium staring at us and disappearing while our waters were empty or waiting for the check.Try to add something positive: The decor, location, layout, etc. was all top notch. Sadly, this is what I often find, the GOOD Thai places are a bit more awkward when it comes to logistics, and the bad places are all about the image and not the food. This place knows how to do decor, at least, but maybe they could auction off the artwork and hire some decent servers.Overall, just yuck. And, like I said, this is the kind of Thai Place I hate. It’s all presentation, giving you the EXPERIENCE of great Thai ambiance… but without any of the good food! (lol?). I mean, if you SAY you’re the best ‘gourmet’ Thai food in town (according to their website), then people are sure to believe it, right? I’d prefer they let the FOOD do the talking, though, as the good places in town don’t seem to need a fancy website to campaign for you thinking they’re good. The good places just have good food! Hopefully, as Thai food gets more popular we’ll see a move toward better, more authentic options instead of the direction Chinese food has taken where many places are unrecognizably non-authentic, but still popular because hey, it’s exotic compare to hamburger helper! Maybe the standards here will increase due to competition as much, much better Thai places are opened or discovered in town, but my guess is this place will continue touting themselves and putting up (and arguably great) front and presentation, and people who don’t know better will continue keeping their seats filled. Like literally, people that don’t know you can go to the asian market (or some grocery stores now), but pre-made paste, a can of coconut milk, throw it in a pot with meat and veggies and have better curry than they’re paying so much for at Bangkok Thai.

Very average food – high price. Bangkok Thai tries to be the upscale thai restaurant in Spokane, they have a nicer dcor then most, a decent wine list and their entre’s are pricier then the other Thai restaurants. Does that make them better, yes and no, for ambiance and a nice bottle of wine yes, plus they usually have good service, but to be honest their food in just average. In my opinion you get slightly better food at the Thai bamboo chain then you do from Bangkok thai and you won’t spend as much.

Love this place. Had the Tom Yum soup pad thai, and Gang Panang curry last visit. All were out of this world. Authentic and extraordinarily flavorful – none of the Americanized crap you get at some other places. I also find that some Asian restaurants seem to think us Caucasians won’t be able to handle incredibly spicy dishes, even when we ask for it. Bangkok Thai harbors no such prejudices. Easily the best Asian food we’ve had in Spokane.
