HORRIBLE ALL AROUND. After spending over $148 on food we ended up at Taco Bell. Horrible service, horrible food, and horrible setting. I would NEVER recommend this restaurant. I don’t understand how they are still in business.
This place is really hit or miss. I eat lunch here every couple of months because it’s close to my office, and sometimes I’ve had a great experience and other times I haven’t. I once had the elk burger and it was amazing. Another time I had the vegan burger and it was dry, crumbly, and bland. One time I had the pulled pork (considered THE best item on the menu by my friends and myself) and it was amazing. And another time I had the Asian chicken salad and the portion was small and there was hardly any chicken on the salad. However, when I went later with someone that ordered the same salad, theirs was a good size and had plenty of chicken. I have had the balsamic dressing there a few times and keep forgetting not to get that one because it’s weird. It’s some sort of egg-based dressing, as it reminds me of Mayonnaise with balsamic vinegar mixed in. It sure coats the salad great, but it doesn’t taste very good and burns my mouth a bit because it’s so acidic. Their prices are a little higher than other lunch joints, but they do feature local, fresh cuisine. They actually have a rooftop herb garden. I’m really neutral on this place.
Bizarre Customer Service. Thanks to their bizarre methods of customer service, I still haven’t eaten at Hills’ Restaurant & Lounge. A group of friends and I went into Hills’ earlier this summer around 5 pm hoping to get a good meal. When we walked into the restaurant, we were immediately cut off by the hostess who informed us that they were about an hour to an hour and a half behind so they weren’t seating people at this time. The restaurant was almost empty except for a handful of tables with groups of 2-5 people. It was Hoopfest weekend so if it had been packed, this would have been completely understandable. Due to the lack of patrons in the restaurant and the fact that we asked if the other tables were reserved and she said no, we were utterly confused. She then offered that we could wait at the bar but it would be at least an hour before we could place orders for food of any sort. We declined and decided to go The Steelhead where we get much better service and actually got food. To this day, we have no idea why they were so far behind. Even if it was a case of only having one chef on hand, someone didn’t show up to work, someone went home sick, etc. it doesn’t make sense why she wouldn’t have explained the situation and instead was rather rude which completely turned us off. I walk by this restaurant quite often and still haven’t eaten there and probably won’t eat there because that incident is still fresh in my mind.
Can’t tell you if the food was good, but the service was most certainly not. I sat there for 25 min with only the hostess coming over after 15 minutes to get me a water. Plenty of other places downtown to eat.
Nothing fancy but good. Great ribeye steak! Low key quiet place, nothing fancy. Dcor could be upgraded with just minor tweaking, which would help greatly with the ambience. The food is pretty good—and in some cases great. The veggie burger is good, as is the Philly cheesesteak sandwich. I’m not much of a gumbo fan personally, but on the numerous occasions I’ve eaten there have noticed it has quite the loyal following. Personally also like their made in house pasta dishes. And they’ve got a good horseradish sauce, as well. I’ve recommended this establishment many times and will continue to do so.
I love hills! I’ve been going there for years and love everything on the menu that I’ve tried, especially the gumbo. I highly recommended this restaurant to all of my friends, and often take them there to try for the first time. Please try this gem in the heart of Spokane – you won’t regret it!
Excellent service, great home made food. Love the fresh, hand made pasta! Great wine selection and so many menu items to choose from. The Thai clams are another one of my favorites! Can’t wait to go back 🙂
