What they say about Asian simplicity and presentation proved to be true at Nudo. Efficient and courteous service without the pretense. For an appetizer we had the pork wontons. Steamed in a wonderful soy/plum/red pepper sauce. The kick of red pepper was almost too spicy. Overall, good flavor and superior to fried wontons, to which I am most accustomed. Entree number 1 was the beef ramen noodles. Interesting beef bone broth properly proportioned to the beef and ramen noodles. The beef tasted like a slow-cooked roast. For our second entree we had the peppered beef rice bowl. The plain white rice complemented the beef perfectly, as did the bed of rice noodles. Like many Asian restaurants the meat portions left something to be desired, but the price for quality is excellent, particularly for the downtown locale. If you aren’t famished looking for a quick, satisfactory dinner downtown, try this place. The service receives top marks. The ambiance is rad with the Asian Lichtenstein comic book pop art on the walls.
I gave them a star for cleanliness but our first time experience was awful!! We went to the new location on the Newport Highway, after church, very hungry. We left hungry!! For the amount you pay for your food and they bring you a tiny plate with tiny portions, we were shocked. We waited about 45 mins for our food, we almost left and I think our waiter realized it and came over to tell us our food was almost ready, very sad, we were a family of 4 and there was an older couple and 1 man at the bar! Waitresses were sitting and folding napkins and the bar tender was washing her glasses. Did they not have a cook at the time we were there and had to wait on him to show? The place was empty and now we know why, we ate, left and went home to finish eating. Very disappointing, and don’t waste your time on the Ramen burgers or grilled chicken, it was so wet and soggy everything slid out and fell apart. No thank you Nudo, we were not impressed at all.
