Totally love the vibe in this place and the soup I got was fantastic. They have a couple they serve every day and then others special each day. If I lived here I would eat here every day until I sampled them all. Plus having beer and cocktails available with lunch and patio seating, awesome little place. Tip: don’t skimp on the soup, get the Whole Bowl and get a slice of the beer bread, delish!!

The other soup place in Spokane only serves like 2 soups? What a misleading title. What’s worse is their beer bread. Couldn’t even take a bite of it because I gagged when smelling it.

I should not have been as surprised as I was that the three soups I tried for their Soup Sampler were absolutely delicious. When soup is in your business name, you better deliver. But the item that stood out the most was their beer bread that came with the sampler, and from what it looked like, comes with every order. In a word….wow. It was absolute eye-rolling satisfaction. One of the nice ladies in there told me they do a french toast with it, and that sounds flat-out spectacular. I’m not sure why I’ve waited so long to try them, but I’m not gonna wait long to go back. Nice clean and friendly little downtown bar…

Boring. I could get better soup from a can.

Very marginal like. Last night, I, my step-daughter and husband ate at Soulful Soups and Spirits. It was First Friday and Soulful Soups was a good option in terms of: serving to minors (until 9 PM), time, prices, lack of spiciness (my stepdaughter is highly capsaicin sensitive) and walking distance to a close friends artists reception.Overall I would give Soulful Soups and Spirits a like but a very marginal like. The dcor is a huge improvement from when it was a soup/deli case joint. Everything in Soulful Soups and Spirits is pleasing to the eye from: the plates on the tables, the furniture itself, to the art on the walls and the eye candy female servers. The soups, if my memory serves, have gone down hill since the early 2000s (I hadnt been to Soulful Soups since about 2001). My New England style clam chowder was competent but had way too much celery (a cheap filler) and over peppered (perhaps to cover up lack of flavor or worse). My husbands Thai Coconut was a mush that was over spiced but lacking the complexity of a good curry. Actually, I took one bite of my husbands soup and thought it gross (and I love true Asian curries). My stepdaughter enjoyed her broccoli cheddar soup. Her dad is a gourmet cook and shes very discriminating, despite being a teenager. So although I wasnt offered a taste of her soup; the broccoli cheddar is a safe bet. On the subject of soups, my husband originally ordered three bean soup, which was listed on the daily menu, but was out. (No one had bothered to erase it from the daily sheet). The salads were fresh and large but nothing excellent like those at South Perry Pizza or Casper Fry. The best part of the meal was the beer bread, which was quite tasty. The cocktails were good not great. Were spoiled, as we are regulars at Bon Bon. It was a bit disconcerting that a restaurant with the name Spirits was out of sweet vermouth (a bar basic), so my husband couldnt order a perfect Manhattan. The service was very much the low point. My husband thought we got ignored. I thought we were rushed through without any personal touch. My husband noticed age discrimination; I literally waved twice for them to come to our table so we could cash out. I went to the bar and had to get in their faces to get our check. My husband noticed that the twenty somethings (who entered after us) got served immediately (and attentively). The age discrimination isnt as bad as at Zola (where we sat for 20 minutes without even a hello) but it was present at Soulful Soups and Spirits. In terms of money, the total was reasonable – $55 plus change for three of us, including two cocktails. However, in terms of quality of food there are other better options in the downtown area. In terms of service, there are exponentially better choices in downtown Spokane.

First time customer. I found this first visit to be very enjoyable and I’m sure I’ll return. I got the black bean soup which was quite brothy to it’s merit and my preference (not that it wasnt loaded with all the goods) and the staff was nice, helpful and patient. Might be a little expensive for what it is, $7 for a bowl of soup but the serving is ample in my opinion.

Serioulsy good. Went for lunch; we loved it! The service is great, the beer bread is incredible, and tomato basil soup is addicting. The tortilla soup also deserves a round of applause. We moved from Seattle recently and our favorite soup joint was Sound Soups Downtown, and were worried that Spokane wouldn’t have a comparable place. Not to worry, we found one. Not sure about some of the negative reviews, maybe things have changed? The menu changes around daily. We had a really great experience.
