Mixed feelings…. This brightly colored truck showed up outside of my office sometime in the past couple of weeks. Word on the street is that they have the first premanent food truck license in the downtown area. I love the idea of food trucks in Seattle so I decided to hop accross the street and check it out. The verdict? The jury is still out. I might give it another shot. I had a veggie taco (yummy!), red curry fried rice (pretty good, but more coconut than curry) and jicama slaw (more cabage than jicama, overwhelming amounts of cilantro, rice wine vinegar, and sesame oil). This came to $7.50. Each item was fairly good sized though. Prices seemed reasonable overall. The food came accross as overly sweet accross the board, to me. Here is the rub, though: they have lots of stiff competition for tasty grab & go eats in this neighborhood. All totalled, this was a 20-30 minute excursion for a taco- which is just too long to bother with on most work days (I can be in and out of the taco place accross the street in about 3 minutes flat). My sense is these guys just don’t quite have the mise en place down for handling a busy lunch rush. They have an ambitious menu that requires lots of fussy preperations and I’m not sure it quite translates to this venue.
