Absolutely delicious Tonkatsu! My first ever, so I don’t know how it compares to others, but it was heaven! My friend had another lighter summery dish, which was also delicious.
This was my first ever and only ramen experience so I don’t have a benchmark to compare this with. However that being said, compared to the other Asian dishes I’ve tied, I did like it a lot. Was almost like soupy noodles but the flavours were balanced and presentation was good. Ambience is classy and relaxed while the service was under friendly. They took the time to explain the items on the menu without getting angry.
My friend and I came here before the Beyonc concert on a trip from Victoria BC. We got the Garlic Shoyu ramen and it was unbelievable! Can’t wait to come back! 🙂
This is the latest outlet for Kukai Ramen. We had a ramen hankering and they completely fixed it! Tonkatsu ramen was delicious, chicken karaage, agedashi tofu yum. It’s consistently good. ittybittyfoodies.com
I went out of my way to go to Kukai three times during one trip to Seattle. The Tsukemen and the Garlic Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen were dishes I absolutely fell in love with. The Garlic Tonkotsu Shoyu Ramen had an awesome broth. Complex and flavorful it had a salty richness with tasty fat in the broth mixed with a lot of toppings. The noodles were also a nice firm chewiness that clung onto the broth with each slurp. I may prefer the Tsukemen dipping noodles more than the ramen. Hearty noodles in a very rich broth, the flavor was so strong, but mixed so well soaking into the thicker ramen noodles. The baos were also a great snack to start of the meal. Soft warm dough and thin, fatty slices of pork belly. It was good, but add the mustards and hoisin sauces and it was incredibly satisfying. We always went early to Kukai to make sure we got seated immediately, but based on the lines as we left, it seemed like there could be waits to get in. Service was pretty attentive, while it wasn’t busy the servers were eager to get our order before it got busy. It was attentive enough that when I wanted more noodles for my broth they were right there ready to get me some.A restaurant chain from Japan with only a few locations in North America, Kukai is a great spot for some great ramen noodles. It might be my first stop next time I’m back in Seattle.
Was able to try this through Peachd and I am glad I did! Even though it was takeout, it still topped my experience at Samurai Noodle which previously deterred me from venturing farther into the Ramen food scene. I will definitely have to make a trip to Belltown to try the rest of the menu!
The ramen was delicious my only reason for not giving them more stars was it took quite a while to get food and they still didn’t have beer or other alcoholic beverages available. I understand that they just open and it is full but we had to wait a very long time for our ramen. Overall I would say it was delicious and the noodles were perfectly al dente and the broth was well seasoned and not too salty. Will definitely be back!
