Great!. Hard to believe anything in a city can be this good and so reasonably priced. Big Vietnamese fan, and Origin makes the grade. Added bonus, wonderfully generous pour at the bar, confirmed by another table who all were a bit taken aback by the stiffness of their drinks. Would happily go back anytime.
Fantastic and affordable. Tired of increasing prices for good, but not great food at the Vietnamese place around the corner from my office, I decided to try Origin, a couple blocks away, on my lunch break. So very glad I did. I was getting an order to go, but the place seemed open and vibrant. It was busy, but the staff was quick and courteous. As a benchmark I got bn, rice vermicelli with grilled pork and egg roll. It’s a staple at most Vietnamese places, and seemed a good first bet. It was a winner. It came largely disassembled, so you could add veggies and peanuts to taste. The skewered pork was juicy, tender, easily came apart with a fork, and was obviously, deliciously, flame grilled. The eggroll was crispy, with a savory filling of pleasant texture (kept the general integrity of it’s parts, rather than being a blended mush), and not at all greasy. They could’ve been more generous with the cucumber, but that might just be me. I like cucumber. But the veggies across the board were crisp, clean, and fresh. The fish sauce that ties it all together I wasn’t expecting to note, but note I did. It erred on more of a rich, savory vibe rather than the more vinegary I’ve had elsewhere, but still maintained it’s thinness so it wasn’t heavy at all. It was a small and subtle difference, but enough to note. All in all some of the best bn I’ve had in Seattle. My lunching partner had the lemongrass chicken and was equally impressed. And the entrees, same price at lunch and dinner (thank you!) are mostly all under $10. I will definitely be going back and trying more.
Nice little happy hour with a good selection of nibbles and great drinks!
Moderately Priced/Heart of Seattle. The Origin is a Vietnamese cuisine restaurant in the location of a former India cuisine restaurant. I first visited there expecting the latter and discovered the former. I am gluten intolerant, and for the most part, the Origin’s menu is rice-based, so it is a natural fit for me. (Just ask them to hold the soy sauce.)The food is excellent, (I’ve not had a bad meal in about 6 visits,) and the prices are very reasonable; (a rice plate entree is on the order of $9.00.) The service is fast and friendly, but don’t expect linen tablecloths! This is all about great food at affordable prices in the heart of downtown Seattle.
