Very nice place and good surprise with tasteful wines from Washington state (we tried Syrah and Grenade grape variety). Starters are great with sweet/salty associations. We took 2 salads to continue and they were rich and fresh. Deserts are also original and good.Service is very fast and nice. The only weak point is the price : we paid 110 $ for 1 starter to share, 2 full salads, 1 desert to share and 2 glasses of wine…
20% service charge is not well earned. The bar staff were noticeably busy doing nothing, appeared to be stoned and as if moving through molasses, or talking amongst themselves rather than engaging or serving patrons.Although, when you were to get their attention, they had excellent wine knowledge and offered great suggestions. The purple door has amazing wine selection you can get lost in, great atmosphere you can enjoy your night in and staff that will keep their distance. With all the great alternatives in Seattle, I will not be returning to The Purple Cafe
Awesomely fresh and delicious food. We were here on a Monday night and the salmon was the BEST I have ever had. Highly recommend sitting upstairs where you can view their really cool multistory 360 degree wine collection. The service was very good. Would definitely recommend and will go back.
Located on 4th ave and University, it as a unique interior, we really enjoyed the atmosphere. We started with the local northwest white flights which 3.3oz pours, which went well with the roasted chicken pizza and beef tartare. Service was exceptionally attentive, your table has water brought tom you, but you can order mineral water. The wine list is extensive for just anyone’s taste in wine.
My mom and I were in from out of town and stopped here before a symphony concert. We didn’t have a reservation, but were seated quickly because of a cancellation. Our server asked for any time constraints we had so that he could make sure we were on time to our event. We left exactly the time we meant to. Mom had the chicken breast and I had the lobster Mac and cheese which was loaded with lobster. Both were excellent and came out quickly. Great, fresh food with helpful and knowledgeable service.
Every time I’ve been to Purple the service has been outstanding and the food had been delicious. The first time I went I was with a group of people who were new to wine and the sommelier walked us all through the wine acceptance ritual without ever making us feel bad about not knowing everything already. He even got us a glass of corked wine to taste (it’s not dangerous, just unpleasant) so we would know what we were actually looking for when we taste the wine. The second time my husband and I were on a weekend getaway to celebrate our anniversary and the service was truly excellent. Our server was able to find the perfect wine to suit my husband’s tastes (he likes really intense red wines which are not for everyone, I’m impressed Purple had such niche wines available), and recommended a delicious cheese course for dessert. I’m not usually much of a blue cheese fan but that cheese and the wine pairing our server recommended were amazing together. Between the two of us, we had the beef tartare, crab cakes, pan fried duck breast, steak frites, and the cheese board to finish off. All of it was extremely well balanced and cooked perfectly.
Food and drink are awesome here. Service is also top notch. 4.5 as it can be a bit pricey. But you pay for great service and food. Love the column o’ vino in the center if the room.
