Seven of us for an August dinner. We chose Ray’s Boathouse in respond to the request of the dinner host, a visitor from Japan who wanted seafood with a good view. We would choose Ray’s again.AMBIANCE: 4.5. Awesome view over Puget Sound as the sun sets. Light-colored decor with Ballard theme. FOOD: 4.5. – 4.5: Ray’s smoked sablefish. Creamy flesh. Served with shimoji mushrooms, jasmine rice, pickles, and cauliflower.- 4.0: Ray’s grilled sablefish. – 4.5: Pan-seared sea scallop.- 3.0: Dungeness crab cakes. – 4.5: Vegan soba noodle bowl (not on menu)Desserts:- 4.5: Vanilla Crme Brul.- 4.0: Sorbet- 4.0: Peach CrispWINE: Great selection. With dinner we shared Trimbach riesling from Alsace.SERVICE: 4.0Very accommodating to the needs of the one vegan, both when we called to make reservations and when we ordered.Servers were attentive and friendly throughout the meal, and well-coordinated. A minor nit was that we were asked before ordering if it was a special occasion, and replied with a clear YES and described the occasion. A couple of us noticed that there was no follow-up. We didn’t have expectations before being asked the question, so it probably would have been better not to create (unmet) expectations by raising the question.
