Absolutely loved the crab cakes. The lobster and crab ravioli were also really good. What a fun place. We sat in luxurious, comfortable stools and watched the frenetic action of the cooks – very entertaining and great service.
A night out on the town called for varying taste expectations to be met. The Brooklyn is PRICY for me but well worth every penny. Seated immediately… reservations almost mandatory, welcomed with a Happy Birthday and seated in Eric’s section. Glass’o Bubbly and 1/2 dozen oysters (local) to start. Great meal, great service…thank you Eric, and impeccably prepared salads followed by beef and seafood entrees. Raves were heard for the ribeye and I believe moans were heard over the saffron-sauced mussels!!!! Rushed off to Benaroya, and returned for dessert and coffee with pleasant, friendly service from Bonnie!!! Rat City Rocks… And so does the Brooklyn!!!
I must confess, I am from the Mid-West, where the crown grows high and the beef is plentiful. Washington, you do many things well, but let’s face it, the beef is not that great here. This pretty much sums up the review, but it would be a disservice to end it here. The atmosphere is pretty interesting in Brooklyn Seafood, Steak & Oyster House – it’s a combination of the old, stuffy, white table cloth steak houses that the likes of Patrick Bateman frequent and a cooler, modern steakhouse that brings in the young and hip. There’s only one other steakhouse I have been to that’s tried to pull this off, and it failed miserably – the middle ground is the kill zone – but it looked pretty good here.To start off with the proving that it is not the former of the descriptions of steakhouses, Brooklyn chooses to provide a severely understocked scotch list. The only time I expect to find Laphroaig 10 year as the sole Laphroaig is when I’m at a bar that has no business serving scotch. The appetizers we had were mediocre to good. Their take on the Caprese salad was a bit of a miss in that there was no distinct flavor coming from fresh mozzarella, basil, or balsamic. The star of the dish was the tomato, which granted, was good, but can’t carry the dish by itself. The lobster ravioli in the lobster bisque, too, lacked any distinct flavor. Then there was the crab cake.. a phenomenal little puck of crab and a myriad of other ingredients, but the crab truly stood out as the backbone of the dish. The steak: I went with my go-to, the bone-in ribeye, done medium rare. The temperature on the steak was perhaps a little closer to medium than it was medium rare, but wasn’t terribly off. The steak came with a heaping scoop of butter on top, I suspect to compensate for the bland Washington beef, however, the steak was not seasoned well with either salt or pepper, so, I had a bland steak with butter. The desserts were easily the best part of the meal. I recommend the warm chocolate cake, the chocolate ganache torte, and the Washington apple crisp.Come prepared to spend $100 on dinner.
Good Food, Small Portions. High quality food and ingredients, but portion size left a bit to be desired, especially on the side dishes (where offered). Average service for this class of restaurant – attentive and cordial. Our party of four was seated immediately upon arrival, we did not have reservations (6:45PM on a Tuesday). Would recommend based upon quality, but would caution to not have high expectations on quantity.
Epicurean Delights. From front door to going home this is an outstanding establishment. Great service form the staff and awesome food. Fresh oysters (from the Chesapeake, yet) and perfectly cooked and attractively served dished. We had Venison wrapped in bacon, lobster ravioli (where you could really taste the lobster)and immaculately seared tuna on a bed of cous cous.Desert was fresh key lime pie and apple crisp with maple ice cream on top. The wine list is complete and they do not gouge you on the bottle prices.By the way we like The Met and Elliot’s but this definitely a more intimate experience. The people there treat you right.Great fish and oysters at Elliot’s but not as smooth presentation.
Oysters here are great… but expensive. $3 per oyster.
Service was excellent. Ordered the Northwest Bouillabaisse. The food looked as good as I imagined it would, despite the dim lighting. It tasted pretty good but I thought the dish was overly salty. Something in the stew was not fresh and despite having no seafood allergies, this dish is disagreeing with me disagreeably today. Ugh.
