The bbq bacon burger was a solid choice. The burger came as medium. It would have been better if I was asked how I like my burger, rather than a surprise. The pretzel carrot cake bread pudding was divine. It was worth the 25-30 minute wait after ordering it. We thought the staff had forgotten about us. Overall, the food wasnt worth coming back for, except the dessert.
So the good first:- Always a great beer list. Especially considering their a Seattle craft beer bar. It’s not like there’s a shortage of those in Seattle.- Decent food. Decent probably isn’t even a fair evaluation. The food isn’t good enough to plan as a date night. But it’s good enough to get above average food if you’re out grabbing a pint. The not as good:- They have that beer elite attitude that you should feel lucky to be sitting in their establishment. Servers are generally rude and impatient. See also Brouwer’s.- No half pours or tasters during beer events or weekends. Ignore all the 4oz tasters sitting along the bar. You can’t drink out of those. They’ll blame it on the space behind the bar. Never mind that other places like Beer Junction have figured it out.- It’s in Capital Hill so parking is terrible.- This last one isn’t a complaint as much as a warning. They are 21+. Not an option to bring kids like other Seattle favorites such as Chuck’s (much friendlier staff and more relaxed tasting options as well by the way).
tl;dr: I dont know jack about beer, but this place has a lot of them. My favorite item on the menu is the pretzel bread pudding, but the soft pretzels themselves are pretty fantastic if you dont want dessert with your beer. So, this is going to be the first of many posts wherein I tell you to go somewhere based simply on one single item, which most of the time wont even be their specialty. I love going to restaurants and finding hidden gems, starting off by ordering what theyre known for and moving on to what I like. This is the case of what happened at The Pine Box. The Pine Box is known for their beer, and rightfully so, theyre owned by the same people that own Brouwers in Fremont. Problem is, Im not so much of a beer drinker. I stumbled upon this place after trying to find a sweet happy hour to hang out at before seeing a show at the Paramount. Our first visit of the evening was good enough to warrant a return after the show. And though the first visit was good, the second visit is what I want to tell you about. Because the second visit is where I encountered pretzel bread pudding.Let me make it clear whats happening here. This is bread pudding, which is already one of the best desserts on earth. Made out of soft pretzels, which are already one of the best items on the menu at The Pine Box. The bread pudding is made different each time, but when I ordered it, it was german chocolate.German chocolate pretzel bread pudding. The bread pudding itself was chocolate strewn throughout the pretzel pieces, and the whole thing was topped with this ridiculous coconut-caramel sauce that could very possibly be made of only two ingredients: dreams and wishes. There are things in life that you stumble upon and you never knew that you needed them. That is how I feel about this dessert. Of COURSE soft pretzels should be used in bread pudding. This type of genius is what gets me really stoked on a restaurant or bar, and this sort of thing is what makes me think that theres another hidden gem on the menu.
Environment and service was great. Love the atmosphere.
The Pine Box is an interesting place. At some vantage points you can tell it used to be a funeral home and in other points not so much. Like going up the steps reminds me of going to one. In the main room not as much. If you go upstairs there is where some people would sit during a funeral and you can view the main room easily. We went here as a celebration for several birthdays for Steve and a friend’s. The food is pretty good! I got a cheeseburger and fries. Steve got a Mac and Cheese which was tasty! They have an impressive beer tap list which carried some solid brands! I would go back but it is a little hard to go here with a bunch of people. There is plenty of room for larger parties but at times it gets very loud and it is hard to talk to everyone in the group.
The best pizza I’ve had in a LONG time. What a gem! Not only does this place have a great atmosphere, intriguing name, and an amazing selection of beer, they also have killer pizza! My Husband and I had the zucchini pesto pizza yesterday with our pints. Ahhhmazing. Highly recommend!
Still getting their sea legs – but off to a good start!. Awesome beers and tasty thin-crust pizzas! We just had a great, low-key dinner here. While the menu is small, the beer list is long and pizzas are interesting. The service was a little slow, and the staff didn’t quite have it down yet, but I’m chalking that up to the fact that they just haven’t hit their stride yet. If you like beer and gourmet-but-not-pretentious pizza – The Pine Box is for you!
