The bar scene goes along with the overhyped hotel. I’ve stayed at much better hotels for much less cost. The bar, full of desperate housewives with no so exciting mixed drinks and less exciting bar menu.
Disappointing and very overpriced. Had the pleasure of staying at The W for work this past weekend. As I working late and was exhausted from my flight from Miami I decided to order room service from Trace- big mistake. Had the Northwest Roll with shrimp tempura and torched spicy salmon and 5 pieces of sashimi- total of $36- ended up being $53 bewcuase of 23% gratuity fee and $4 delivery for room service. Rip off- was one of the worst sushi rolls I had ever had- warm salmon does not go well with sushi. Very disappointed as was wanting to try those northwest flavors but just did not work. Should have just saved the money and gone to Taco del Mar- at least Trace did give me a shot glass (?) of wasabi chex mix- ugh
New Favorite. I have been there three times now, for brunch, then drinks, then hosting business associates for dinner. With the interior design, you can tell they spent an absolute fortune, the lobby bar looks like some odd combination of Golden Girls/Futurama/LuxuryCruiseShip. The restaurant, however, is absolutely stunning, possibly the most striking in downtown. Our brunch was very good with some innovative items, and the bar food is great (the burger in particular), and the house cocktails were pretty exceptional (the El Diablo certainly). Our dinner last nite, though having a few problems with service (our waiter seemed to be quite new, and some young girl was so eager to take our plates I felt like she hovered), the food was out of this world. I highly recommend the salad of roasted mushrooms with crispy egg (the poach the egg, coat it in panko, and crisp it up. Amazing). The braised beef with saffron pappradelle was appropriately rich and homey, my steelhead trout prepared just how I like it, barely cooked in the middle. The sirloin was just adequate, but the other fish preparation was just excellent. In fact, the sushi rolls were a nice surprise to the menu, and both rolls we ordered were very tasty, the fish being perfectly fresh. The desserts were strong as well. Probably the only thing that I would think needs immediate improvement is their wine by the glass selection, it was fairly short, with common wines (though good wines). With food this good, it would have been nice to try something more exciting by the glass to pair with it. Overall though, my three experiences have all been very positive.
