Lamb curry is great. You do get about 4 massive cuts of lamb in the entree, in reality they should cut it up more so it can absorb more of the spices.…

Vegan options?. Visited Chutneys a few months ago. Upon arriving I was excited to see it in a strip mall, but the rest of the crew was bummed. When we left I was disappointed and the crew was full and happy. Interior space is clean, new, attractive and not at all displeasing. Menu was nice and everyone had many good choices. I chose a veggie dish and asked the waitress if it was vegan. She was unsure but double checked and verified it…so I thought I was good. Plates came out and looked and smelled fantastic! I loves me some Indian food!Anyway, I started to enjoy my dish realizing about half way through there appeared to be some ghee at the bottom of my plate. Asked the server and sure enough, it was ghee. Ghee is clarified butter….and not remotely vegan.I was a bit mad at the waitress for a while, but now I attribute it to lack of knowledge. Or at least I hope that was the case. I don’t think I will go back myself. But the rest of the crew I went with that night has already been twice more.
Don’t be thrown off by the exterior, it’s very well laid out, clean and stylish inside. Food was delicious, we had the special Haryali (mint) chicken and Shrimp Goa; both were fairly mild but that was what we asked for. The chicken was very tender and juicy. Service was good, chef came to talk to us which was appreciated. Wine was just blah. Will definitely be back to ramp up the spice.
Everyone Has a Bad Day, but……. Finally got over to Chutney’s for a Friday lunch to sample what was being represented as top quality Indian cuisine in Clark County. We were horribly disappointed in both the service and the quality of the food. The person that waited on us gave the appearance of being extremely bored, was not helpful with recommendations, and did not pay too much attention to us despite the restaurant being far from full. The tandori chicken was the poorest excuse for the dish that I have had in some time. It tasted like badly seasoned oven baked chicken thighs, the type of which would be served in a high school cafeteria or hospital. If the restaurant has a tandoor oven, they are not using it properly and not preparing the proteins properly with yogurt and spice. The cook (cannot be a trained chef) did not even use food color to bring out the red/orange traditional color. To make matters worse, this chicken was served in a fajitas style on a sizzling platter, loaded with unseasoned and improperly (raw and cold) cooked vegetables. When we finally got the naan bread and the chutneys that our server initially forgot to bring with the order, they were unacceptable in taste. Again, it calls into question whether the naan was actually made in a tandoor oven , and whether the chutneys (namesake of the restaurant) were made by anyone possessing a rudimentary understanding of Indian cuisine. No char marks on the naan give rise to questions. The raita had a chemical/spoiled taste, the tomato chutney tasted like metallic tomato sauce, the mint chutney was just odd and not good, and the tamarind chutney was missing something. A 0 for 4 score on the sauces. This meal abuse was not limited to this one dish. My wife ordered the assorted hot vegetable platter, and she found them all lacking in freshness and improperly seasoned. The okra dish was slimey and everything that non-Southerners hate in a bad okra dish. Even the rice was not the greatest. The only dish that was better that average was the appetizer samosa, which was tasty. Too bad, it was the smallest dish served and quite pricey for the portion served.Chutneys has been around for awhile and needs to invigorate their staff and the menu. Maybe, we just hit the place on a bad day. But when bad is really bad, and the service is not inviting….. there is no reason to take this culinary trip again. Save your money for restaurants that care and produce great food.
The tandoor chicken that comes on a sizzling metal plate was healthy, tasty and enormous in size!
Excellent!!!
Dan. Good food but definitely overpriced.
Yuck- everything is so freaking tomatoey … Good enough to impress white folks!
