164th Panera Bread. I like panera bread, but every time I’ve gone to the one on 164th one they have not had any products prepared including there pastries. At most places, they plan ahead. I work at a restaurant so I know. This has happened multiple times within the span of a couple weeks & I think they just need to start looking at there sales & comparing it to how much they are producing.
Skip the salad. Universally, bakeries really aren’t known for their great salads, so, unless you really want to eat one, order something that is their core competency like something made with bread. Here is their menu:http://www.panerabread.com/menu/It's a chain restaurant and the menu items are pretty similar between the Vancouver, WA and the Pasadena, CA locations.Probably the best lunch deal during the winter is their soup and half sandwich combo. They offer a variety of really tasty soups. The next best lunch deal if you really enjoyed their bread and their soups is to order the soup in a bread bowl; the price is the same whether or not you order the bread bowl, so you might as well order the bread bowl so you have plenty of bread to eat your soup with.Soups I’ve had that are tasty: Creamy Tomato, Low Fat Chicken Noodle, and New England Clam ChowderThese sandwiches have never disappointed my palate: Hot Panini Turkey Artichoke, Italian Combo, Asiago Roast Beef , Mediterranean Vegetable, and Smoked Ham & Swiss. The bakery menu is pretty evil, well, evil as in bad for your waistline. They are premium priced (above what you can get at a grocery store’s bakery), but they are richly decadent and an excellent pair with hot tea or coffee. There are too many good eats from their desserts to list them all here. They are as good as they look.Having a working lunch? Most Panera Bread bakeries have free WiFi.
Wilted lettuce in poorly dressed salad. Strange, thick French onion soup lacking onion flavor. Poorly considered condiments on pannini. Just plain not good. Go to La Bottega instead.
Delicious pastries and bagels; sandwiches and soups are very good – especially their seasonal stuff (like the tomato soup). Free wifi and friendly staff are plusses. Main issue I have with Panera is the price; lunch can easily be $20 for two people.
