Worth Every Penny!. My boyfriend and I decided to stop in here on our way home yesterday evening and have found a new love! The restaurant is tastefully decorated and we were greeted immediately with a smile, menus and chilled water. Not wanting to get too much food, we shared an entree and appetizer and found that the portion size was more than perfect for sharing, or enough to fill one REALLY hungry person. The wait staff was kind and efficient and the owner himself even made rounds in the dining room checking on guests. I have read some of the negative reviews on this site and have decided that those people are simply crazy. We had an amazing meal and it didn’t break the bank. We will definitely be back.
We were seated immediately with menus and chilled water at hand. With a plethora of choices to choose from we were in need of some suggestions, which were quickly given by our wonderfully polite waiter. He suggested 2 deliteful entrees and explained how the restaurant roasts their own spices, makes their own cheese and cultures their own yogurt. The meal was delivered right away after being served scrumptious gluten free and vegan soup. (Who would’ve known gluten free and vegan could be so good :)?) After scarfing down our perfectly prepared food our naan was hand wrapped to go by our lovely waiter. Overall one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever dined in!
Don’t waste your time. The service was rediculously slow since they weren’t even busy and the food was decent at best. They waisted all their money on the decor and then couldnt afford decent wait staff.
Awful. What an awful experience. First we stood at the front waiting to be seated and we were pretty much ignored. Then once we were finally seated we were served water without ice, which in a restaurant I think is extremely odd. My father ordered a glass of wine, which was small and cost $10. We ordered an appetizer which took a total of 45 min to arrive, we were told he would be back to take our food order, he never came back, another lady took it for us about 30 min after we ordered the appetizer. She couldn’t believe we hadn’t ordered yet. Meanwhile we are out of water. Then an hour later our food arrives, people that were seated after us had left already. Not once did he apologize. He told us a manager would come talk to us and he never did. Food portions are small, food isn’t fresh, probably a lot of frozen food and mixes. Just an all around disaster.
This is a wonderful place, and I’m not quite sure why the rating isn’t higher than it is! The prices are a little higher than normal, but the amount of food is as well. Each dish comes with a wonderful soup, and rice. We came in a little before they opened and they still let us in and sat us. The food was amazing and quite spicey, just a little higher then I would have wanted, but I chose it. They had ran out of lemonade so they even made some from scratch, it was very good. 4 1/2 stars.
Me and my wife had great date after hitting our local Y. we were stopping in late close to closing and was greeted with a smile. They served the best food that I have had out in ever.we have a new love, its the Gate way to India in Gig harbor.12 Mar, 20105 stars. We have been to Gateway to India 3 times now. We were very pleased with the service and quality of food. Our daughters are not very adventurous when it comes to food but lhey loved it. The chai tea is exceptional. We haven’t found anything we didn’t love at Gateway to India.
Really bad service from the kitchen. We just ate at Gateway to India in Gig Harbor. Because we think Gateway’s Buffet is the worst around we always buy the dinner dishes because they are fresh. This time they didn’t have any rice cooked, they told us all we could get was the leftover rice from the buffet. It had been sitting for almost 4 hours and was totally crunchy. The waiter told us he was in trouble because he didn’t tell them to make more rice. We didn’t want to cause him any trouble so we agreed to eat the old dried up rice. I think it is rediculous that four people spend 80 dollars to eat, and we can’t even get decent rice. I’ve had a few other bad experiences at the Tacoma Gateway, but we still gave them another chance. For the quality of the food and portion sizes they should be charging half what they charge. For some reason tacoma area indian restaurants are prices 5-6 dollars per dish more than any other city you go to. Which would be alright if they tasted better or used fresh ingredients. Unfortuantely Gateway uses frozen food, and horrible cuts of lamb, leftover meats used in the buffet with tons of grizzle. After reading this go there, try it out and see for yourself, just don’t make the mistake of giving them as many chances as I have. They are better than India Mahal (at least you don’t hear the microwave going after you order) , but I’d say Bombay Bistro is much better. (still over priced)
