Great place for Happy Hour. This is my favorite place to come early, before the rush, for the good house white wine (French and just right) and a few small plates. Service is friendly and fun at that hour, and I love sitting with the wine and a good Gainsbourger or a little crock of homemade soup while the highly eclectic playlist of songs keeps me trying to name the singer. There’s always something outre’ being screened on the wall in the back, too, usually some obscure and funky b&w film. Love it.

Awesome atmosphere. Gainsbourger and duck baguette are very good
Overpriced fascists. Won’t be back.
Good Food, Poor Service. I’ll have to admit that I shrugged off the poor service comments as every place is entitled to a bad night. A group of 6 friends arrived for our reservation on a Saturday night. The place was crowded and lively. It took 20 minutes for someone to take our drink order and another 20 to deliver the drink. Only one arrived followed by the other 10 minutes later. The food took over an hour to come to the table and came didn’t come out at the same time. I will say, that the food was far better than I had expected. If I were not with such a large group of people, I would have picked up and left. Will I go back? Not on a weekend. I would try it on a slower night. As for the food, the French Onion Soup was great as was the Duck and Brie Sandwich with fries. We shared some poutine which was quite good. Snack before you come as it may be a while!
A Remarkable Repast. While the few reviews, spread over a handful of years, cover the extremes of like and don;t like, making the service sound lousy or great–and the food as mundane or remarkable–we were compelled to find out ourselves why 140 people would rate Gainsbourg at 90%.We arrived just before the end of happy hour on a Saturday evening and snagged the last booth. Having no idea what to expect I was delighted by the eclectic decor and found myself watching the 1924 silent version of Peter Pan–a most unexpected treat. Our server Nick was Johnny ont ehs pot, from start to end. After a couple of delicious (and potent) cocktails I followed with delicious escargot and we had customized burgers–a combo of beef and lamb. The menu was varied, the food tasty and properly prepared. Not often I get to indulge my escargot cravings at $3 a pop. Gainsbourg will a litany of pleasant surprises and we liked it enough to put it on our favorites list–need I say more?
Terrible customer service. Varying degrees of bad customer service; from off-putting to night ruining.
