Yum!! These guys know how to throw a salad together and their tamales are awesome. Great service, great margaritas. I like Luisa’s! Can’t understand the crappy reviews?
Delicious Mexican, despite some tough reviews. My husband and I were looking for a good Mexican dinner and after driving past Luisa’s several times thought we would give it a try. We typically reference online reviews before trying any new restaurant and did so before heading to Luisa’s. We were disappointed to read some of the reviews, some of which seemed pretty outrageous and others just described a so so experience. We decided to take a chance (particularly with the attractive coupon offer on Luisa’s website) and we are here to tell you that the general consensus is WRONG! As we entered Luisa’s we were greeted with a warm tortilla with butter and salsa (prepared in front of us) and then promptly seated. It did take a while for someone to actually take our order but once they did our water glasses were never empty and we were checked on several times to make sure that everything was to our liking – and it was! I ordered the Carnitas (pork) dinner which was delicious. Warm tender chunks of flavorful pork that fell apart at the touch, yummy warm spanish rice with a side of refried beans and fresh guac and pico de gallo. I thoroghly enjoyed my meal and happily took my leftovers home. My husband had El Matador: a flavorful shredded beef enchilada and chile relleno combo. We are disappointed to hear that some people were really hard on this place and its food. We take our dining experiences very seriously and would definitely visit this place again. Maybe some of the reviews are outdated and some improvements have been made but nonetheless we recommend this establishment to you. (Given our experinence we promptly posted this review once we arrived at home.)As for the haters, what were you expecting, a three star Michelin gastronomical experience? A sous vide sopapilla? My guess is that many owners of the poor reviews have difficulty pronouncing ‘salsa’. As for the much thrown about term ‘authenticity’, if you’re talking about Mexican restaurants in Dallas or San Diego, you’re wasting everyone’s time. If you want authenticity, try visiting the D.F., or someplace else in Mexico you didn’t go on spring break.Lousa’s offers a perfectly fine Mexican-American (an ‘authentic’ cuisine in its own right!) experience, and we’ll be happy to return.
Terrible. My dinner smelled rancid, it had obviously been precooked and reheated. (Quite a while ago at that) The food’s odor was so bad everyone at the table had difficulty eating. The server knew something was wrong and never returned to the table until after others had finished. I had not touched a thing on my plate, I was asked if I wanted it boxed and I answered that I did not care for it. I was nervous sending it back, as I never have done that before. I expected it to be removed from the bill, but left paying without eating a bite. I used to manage a restaurant. Huge disappointment.
Average service, bad food. Our food came out less than ten minutes after we ordered. It tasted like something you might find in the frozen section of the grocery store. They obviously pre make everything and reheat, like most Mexican restaurants do. Avoid this place and go another mile or so up Greenwood to La Casa Azul.
Just okay is right…. The food was not bad, but lacked just enough to not be anything great. Small portions, no free Horchata refills, and was more in the $10-15 range for price. If your looking for good/cheap Mexican go to Burrito Loco up the hill.
Expected too much. Once again my wife and I went in search of a replacement authentic Mexican restaurant…unfortunately we did not find the food at Luisa’s flavorful, nor enticing…The salsa was great minus the fact they give tiny portions…Kind of on the same plane as Azteca.
Just OK.. Unpleasant seating – my wife and I are constantly betting whether the building used to be a Skipper’s or a Denny’s. The food is tasty enough and greasy enough, but being Arizona refugees, we know real Mexican food. This is just OK.
