Stopped in for a quick sushi meal with my husband and was not disappointed! This place serves up what I imagine is authentic sushi at very reasonable prices. We will be back! They have a pretty big menu so there’s lots to explore.

Mori Japanese Restaurant 85th Street. Pluses: A friendly, personable male sushi bar chef and young male waiter. They were sweet. A few parking spaces are offered on busy 85th Street, but it was more preferable to park near Sakya Monastery and be able to spin their Tibetan prayer wheels, as this restaurant needs prayers. Minuses: 1. No ventilation in the restaurant as no windows can be opened, so the front door must be opened, which lets in bus exhaust fumes from the Metro busstop outside the front door. 2. Distracted, female hostess did not smile or offer a greeting when we walked in. Her highly-stressed demeanor was off-putting. 3. Salad consisted of five small romaine lettuce pieces with no garnish and a strange dressing. 4. Entrees contained very meager portions. Salmon was undercooked, pieces of the vegetable tempura were undercooked, sunomono was a tiny bit of shredded cabbage with a peculiar marinade. 5. Dessert ice cream had significant, obvious freezer-burn. 6. Distracted, stressed-out hostess was impassive to tactful feedback about the freezer-burned ice cream. 7. Dinner for two was not worth $37. 8. This restaurant operates as if it is about to close. Is it? I sure spun those prayer wheels before we left.

Delivery. I liked the food, it was pretty tasty, but the portion was VERY small. Even my son, who eats very little, was done eating in a flash and was still hungry. I knew then that it wasn’t just my imagination — portions should be a little larger. But the food is good!

So much love, so little decor. Holds its own against the best sushi spots in town… once you ignore the dingy little building with its sweeping view of Fred Meyer and the drugstore. Ignore the view! Ignore it! The fish is beautifully fresh and very well presented. Mori also has terrific oshinko (pickled veggies), which I adore and don’t seem to find on many menus here in Seattle. (If you’re not familiar with oshinko, it’s a great cold-dish appetizer choice, particularly in summer.) Highly recommended. Heck, I’ll probably be there when you arrive.(A word about the entrance: When we first walked by, we noticed a review posted on the door that was, to put it gently, not encouraging. I haven’t a clue why the restaurant keeps that review visible, since even the critic admits in the text she was in a nasty mood, but I’d suggest taking the article with a grain of salt. Or some oshinko. Mm, oshinko.)

Delivery Sushi ~ Nirvana has been Attained!. Mori has somehow managed to combine two concepts near and dear to my heart – DELIVERY and SUSHI. Mmmmmmmmmm……My beau is not a huge fan of sushi, so I don’t eat it nearly as much as I’d like to (say, once a day….). Because of this, we don’t tend to seek out sushi when we do eat out, so I’m not well-versed on the Seattle sushi scene. However, a few months back while the beau was out of town, I had a huge hankering for some raw fish and seaweed. I headed for my laptop hoping against hope that I could find a decent sushi place in the neighborhood because while I was indeed craving sushi, I was also feeling unbelievable lazy. *Go get food? Huh. No, I think I’ll have popcorn for dinner instead.* I was hitting all the usual on line spots, searching for sushi with good reviews, and BAM! I found sushi (check) in the neighborhood (check) and…what’s this? They deliver! Oh miracle of miracles, I think I just heard the angels singing! I burned up the phone lines calling Mori and placing my order. My delivery order arrived within a half-hour and the delivery person was courteous and friendly. After closing the door and temporarily setting down my to-go boxes in order to do an impromptu happy dance, I tucked in to wonderful, fresh, and flavorful sushi. I have since ordered delivery sushi from Mori several times and it’s always been a great experience. The only thing I would suggest to make the experience absolutely sublime: Mori should look into on line ordering. Oooh, the thought just makes me swoon.
