I walked in on a lunch break to try this place out and the only way I can describe it is thrifty, but lackluster. Three of their four deli cases were empty at the time, the only open register seemed to be the one at the back of the store in the pseudo-bistro, and the food wasn’t anything to write home about. I’m glad I stopped in to try it out, but unless you’re going there specifically for Italian ingredients, I’d give it a pass. Was happy to support a local business; maybe I just stopped in on an off day.
Fabulous neighborhood grocery store. Friendly staff and even better food. Great prices on fresh veggies and meats. Best sandwiches in town.
Joke of an Italian Grocery. When they were in the downtown location, it was a great little grocery, not anymore. Selection of Italian products is practically nill. They also have some of the rudest help I’ve encounterd anywhere in a long time. I will never set foot in the place again…and I had been going to Cassano’s since I was a youngster. Any of the ‘specialty meats’ I can get on line. Il luogo puzza!!
Good Italian cold cut sandwiches. This is a small grocery store and Italian deli. The store offers a variety of Italian items different olive oils, imported Italian wines and other Italian grocery items. They also have the most amazing collection of fresh pasta’s in the freezer along with homemade sauces. At the deli counter; I ordered a tomato, mozzarella, prosciutto on sour dough bread sandwich with a cannoli. I’ve had all those ingredients on a sandwich before. Prosciutto di parma, salty cured pork imported from one of Italy’s chief gastronomic regions, is by far my favorite cold cut. And as far as I can tell, only one establishment in Spokane sells a sandwich with sliced imported prosciutto and that is Cassano’s. This it is an essential lunch spot for anyone looking for good Italian sandwiches.Think of Italy and the thoughts that first come to mind are the wonderful waterways of Venice, black olives, olive oil, pizza, pasta, and the fabulous all-time favorite dessert ‘cannoli’. It is said that you will never find two cannoli’s that are exactly the same. Many swear that the taste and the experience of eating a cannoli well-made can never ever be forgotten. Cassano’s was well-made flaky and fresh, and the filling dense with creamy ricotta cheese slightly sweet with a hint of cinnamon, with a few chocolate chips a perfect, but perhaps unnecessary, ending to a filling lunchl.
I ordered the Veal Marsala. The service was somewhat slow. It took longer than I’d expect to receive our salad, soup and glass of wine. After a wait of some time, the very pleasant waitress came to tell me that the chef was out of marsala sauce but could make a piccata sauce in its place. The piccata was very good. The mushroom ravioli was also very tasty. I enjoyed my evening, and would certainly go back. A very quaint little neighborhood bistro. I want to try the pizza.
Fabulous!. Not the fanciest place around, but wonderful food. I prefer the deli over the restaurant, but only because my needs are simple (give me a great Italian sandwich and/or meatballs, and I’m thrilled). The freezer case is full of amazing housemade pastas, and you can’t go wrong with Carl’s meat sauce! Great imported foods, and I hear they butcher all of the meat in their case in house w/o using life extending gas sprays, so I like that as well. Best cannoli you’ll get north of San Fran or west of Chicago.
Good Italian, needs to expand the walk-in menu. I *really* liked the lasagna, and my co-worker had the spaghetti, both looked – and were – yummy! But, toss in some of that gorgeous french behind the counter, or some of the items from their menu (ala-carte) to walk ups and this could be a *to die for* lunch counter! Sandwiches are done by everyone in town… Make the walk up counter something special! This place has *great* potential…
