Tough update. I’ve gone to this place for years to pick up u-bake lasagnas whenever I’m close. One of the best deals in town, because they are made with Nona’s hands, and when she passes, they may stop all together. They are simple, subtle, and delicious. Their deli offerings are straight out of an Italian dream. You let them make the food, ask for no substitutions, and eat like you are in the Old World. Here’s the problem… They are about as miserable a bunch of feckless, unfriendly, emotionless robots that you’ve ever had the displeasure of ringing you up at a register or assisting you in the deli. Every darned one of them–young and old. And it’s been this way for the last few years. It’s mind boggling as to why? Tired? Not really, because they are never busy at all when I go in there. Are they burdened by the thought of maintaining the only true Italian deli/market in Eastern Washington? Perhaps, but call your cousin Stefano and his family back in Piscataway to come run the joint if you don’t want to. All the Italian delis I went to growing up in the Northeast treated you like you were a cousin when you came in to the store. These humanoids treat you like….nuthin’. Even Nona…
