Good but not great. DeLeon’s deli pales in comparison to Abelardo’s or Los Tacos Tumbras. Still, I have to give their deli a like because they actually fix authentic style Mexican tacos. The counter staff is nice, too. However, the preparation of the Mexican food wasn’t skillful. Both my chicken and pork meats were tough. The red salsa at the bar was basically a minced version of stewed tomatoes and chilis. Nothing in their red salsa shows any craftsmanship. The most exotic foods were on the shelves. I will probably be back for groceries. It was nice to see spices and ingredients you don’t normally see on Spokane shelves. My tip to Spokane diners is this. If you want great Mexican food:Abelardo’s Their burritos, enchilladas, tamales and rellenos are outstanding. They use lard, which is authentic but not to everyone’s liking.Los Tacos Tumbras – Everything from the grill is awesome – tortas, tacos and huaraches. It taste like Los Tacos Tumbras uses vegetable oil.
Best Mexican Food in Spokane. Great Mexican food. The atmosphere is definitely deli, but the food is well worth it! So far this place has the best Mexican food I’ve eaten in Spokane. The other places we’ve gone to here would go out of business in a week in California.
Just had lunch there yesterday. The chicken was so moist and tender! Very refreshing Mexican fare!! Will absolutely be going back.
Good, authentic Mexican. I had the enchilada plate (one beef, one chicken with red sauce), my husband had the flautas de pollo. Both were very tasty and filling, good value for the price. The rice and beans were pretty standard, but the horchata is a definite highlight. My husband spent two years in South America and says the horchata takes him right back.
Deleon’s downtown. I took advantage of the Groupon offer but chose the downtown place. I judge Mexican restaurants by their Mole. It was OK but nothing to write home about. I recently moved to spokane from Yakima so I know a thing or two about Mexican food. I will give the Francis location a try.
Over-rated. I have heard many good things about DeLeon’s deli on Francis and jumped at the chance when they offered a Groupon. However, after waiting 20 minutes, having 8 people behind me in line get served, being overcharged, having my order filled wrong I was still hoping it was worth the hassle when I got home to share the meal with my husband to be. Unfortunately his food was cold and both of our orders were still incorrect (meats and sauces). Very very disappointed, will not go there again.
Tasty!. It is so hard finding a tamale that is not dried out, but the ones here were fabulous. Generous filling within the masa that is not so thick that it overrides the flavor. The fish tacos are grilled to order and the flavor shows. No previously grilled fish now turned to microwaved rubber. This was juicy and substantial within the tortilla filled with cabbage. Horchata that is not overly sweet but full of spice was the main highlight. It may look like just a deli counter when you come to DeLeon’s, but don’t let that discourage you. Enjoy the flavor journey you will embark upon.
