Let me start off by saying my husband and i are really picky about the chinese restaraunts we go to. We decided to try this place and at first they made my food wrong but promptly fixed it. Once everything was made correctly, the food was AMAZING! We will definitely be coming back to this place. There was plenty of food to take home. A little pricey but worth it.

Happiness: it singlehandedly saved Chinese-American food for me in the Spokane area. No other place does it close to this well here. They cover all the classics, and everything is hot, fresh, and tastes great. Prices are very fair for the amount of food they serve (the lunch special is a killer deal). This is one of the few Chinese places I’ve ate where I don’t feel achy after eating due to a massive MSG bomb – I’m fairly certain they don’t use it. Take-out is on point, and is usually the route I go. If you happen to dine in, you’ll find the service attentive and friendly. The interior is certainly nothing fancy, but is always clean and orderly. One thing is certain, Happiness definitely lives up to its namesake of you’re in the market for Chinese fare.

Excellent takeout. I usually eat in-house here but had not since the change in ownership. I ordered the family style dinner for two to go. At home, I realized I should have invited some neighbors. I unwrappped a veritable MSG-free feast for $30! With this combo you get your choice of two soups, four kinds of apps (not a choice but all three), three entrees, fried rice, a packet of sauces, plasticware, and of course, fortune cookies. Every item was hot and carefully made. We loved every dish except a couple of minor things. The egg rolls had a very strong flavor I didn’t care for that might have been garlic, it was strangely hard to tell. The egg flower soup is done differently than I’m used to. They use mushrooms, sliced baby corn and chopped water chestnuts. The thing is, water chestnuts are my least favorite Chinese ingredient. It’s a mouth-feel/texture issue. Otherwise this soup had good flavor. Hot-sour soup is the other option, which I’ll try next time. I appreciated the energy level of the lady who helped me, she was running the entire front of house by herself. She even carried my food to my car and was super friendly. I’m excitedly keeping my paper menu copy, marked up with what I’ll try next.

Sentimental Fave…. (Update 1/7/15): Since my review, this place is now under new ownership. Further opinions to follow…(Original Posting): Gringo Chinese that has a very soft spot in my heart for the local area. Are they any better/different than a dozen others like it? Nah… But there are a few things about the place that makes me like them a little more than other joints. They’ve been there for 40 years. They persevered through a burn-to-the-ground disaster. They are very consistant with product. They are all really nice folks, and there is more than one generation in there working. I’ve hit them for lunch over the decades, and I’ve never been disappointed. A dreary, June day offered the perfect time to enjoy this Northwest, formulaic, gargantuan-plate, family late morn grubbout. Complete with leftovers for hungry teens at home. I like’m….

For standard, Americanized Chinese food, this place is very good. They’re clearly working a little harder than run of the mill Chinese joints. The hot and sour soup, made fresh to order, was very flavorful and plenty hot (spicy). The entrees grew on me with each bite, after my initial surprise when they didn’t quite fit the mold. The general’s chicken is perhaps a bit heavily breaded and the sauce a touch too viscous, but the flavor is subtle and interesting. The Kung pao beef was excellent. The half portion was enough for two. I asked for it extra spicy and got what I asked for. All in all, a great dinner. Great prices, great specials. I will definitely return.
