Good island breakfast. Been here a handful of times and will go back. Good traditional breakfast and Mimosas and Bloody Marys at island prices. The service has always been friendly and efficient.
Bland food was the best part.. My experience was entirely unappealing. With most of the tables in the place available, the server seated me at a table in the corner. Both chairs faced the corner.I watched regulars grab their coffee mugs from the wall as the server brought me a child-sized mug. The miniature coffee mug turned out fine because the coffee was awful. It was clearly folgers-like. I cannot say whether the taste or weakness of the coffee was worse, but both were awful. That’s ok, there were three sealed creamers on the table, presumably placed there with sanitary intentions. How long prior? They were not chilled and it was pretty early in the morning, so… The food was terrible. It was hard to decipher the yolk from the egg whites in my over/medium eggs because the yolk was so pale, nearly white. The hash browns were not fully cooked. The toast was ok.Of course, after eating two bland eggs, passing on raw potatoes and bad coffee, and scarfing down one sliced piece of toast, almost 90 seconds passed. It took 20 minutes before the server came back again. The server made clear from beginning to end that my presence was an unwelcome burden on her. I smiled and was an easy customer, but I remained unwelcome according to the server’s body language. The place across the street and a block down looked so much better, but opened later in the morning. I would go to the gas station for breakfast sooner than return to the Freeland Cafe. If locals have a similar experience to mine, I’m thrilled to not live nearby.
Excellent Food, Service, Island cafe. This cafe is 100% the locals cafe….Island living …with great food and service. Can it be crowded on weekends….sure ! What do you expect with the Mainlanders visiting and enjoying the Island pace. In a hurry ..then find some other place or a drive through. Blueberry pancakes are Rics favorite too!
Horrible place! Very unfriendly service. Server forgot my wife’s order after suggesting the item she ordered and writing the order down. She then claimed that the sandwich was all we ordered. She offered no apology for forgetting my wife’s order. Eat someplace else! The food I got was fair at best.
Was a busy weekend and they were not prepared … And some how, that was the fault of busy weekend events, not the lack of service (a little rude). Took us over an hour to get our breakfast.
Found this restaurant as a last resort for late lunch on a drive down Whidbey Island, and turned out to be worth the accidental find. The Snapper Burger ($8) was mildly filling and light on flavor for fish, as the bacon contributed a substantial layer to each bite. I was satisfied with fries on the side but the options for a cup of soup or small salad were tempting alternatives. The menu is a booklet of entrees, sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads and even breakfast (served until 9 pm). The restaurant in the front of the house is cramped with 2 tops and 4 tops, and the back of the house is dominated by a full bar and a few more tables. This inconspicuous diner is worth the stop, and just a short trip up Main St from SR-525.
Food was good, portions were small and service could have been friendlier. Prices were expected for an island community. Cramped quarters
