Old frozen Burger Patty. The food is clearly frozen patties and very cheap beef. There are many many burger places that have better quality food that are the same price or cheaper. This place needs to get its act together. It no longer trades on good food but car shows and nostalgia and has gotten very lazy with food quality which will eventually shut its doors.
Terrible food; terrible service; overpriced. I stopped in here with a friend after a hike at Tiger Mountain. We both are root beer fans, so we were excited to see the XXX Root Beer Drive-in on the highway food sign. When we sat down to eat, the first thing I noticed was that everything on the menu was really expensive. We figured that the portions must be huge. Long story short: the portions were not huge, the burgers were worse than McDonald’s, and the root beer did not taste any better than Barq’s (could’ve been Barq’s even). I spent $20 for a terrible meal (cash only), had terrible service, and had an overall terrible experience. I would eat at any fast food restaurant over XXX Root Beer Drive-in any day, and would save a lot of money as well.
Absolutely awful burgers. Not sure if it was mechanically separated beef, but it sure tasted like it. Bad fries. Shake was okay. Root beer was good. One server was friendly, but our main one acted like she was irritated we were even there and gave us attitude the entire night. She also had only one other table, yet took 50 minutes to get our food. I had to track her down to get a bill… and then again to pay it. Overpriced. Atmosphere was… weird, but interesting. Definitely unique. If you’re dying to see this place, just go for a root beer float. Don’t subject yourself to the expensive, terrible food.
Great Root Beer.. Coming here is both a gimmick and a blast from the past. They are very serious about their nostalgia that it plasters all the walls and the ceiling. Nothing about this place is subdued, but that’s how the people like it.The service was friendly (though we were the first people in), and quick. Upon realising that we were tourists, the person I assumed was the manager chatted us up, asking us where we had gone and talked about the history of the place. As for the food, the root beer lives up to the hype as a far different taste than A&W or Barq’s. Far more caramel and tasting like a sarsaparilla, the aftertaste is distinct and satisfying. The burgers were also good, though I would have liked to have a bit more meat in them for the amount that they were charging.
