Go there! Disclaimer, I always wanted to live in a cabin on the water on Vashon Is. The Hardware Store restaurant has great coffee and tasty food. Our server was friendly, helpful, and efficient. Try the red flannel hash… Yes Siree! Real corned beef, beets, potatoes and poached eggs,with a small amount of bernaise or hollandaise sauce on top. Even the toast was delicious bread with red raspberry jam. Others had the special, a great value…shredded pork on top of coleslaw over an english muffin? small salad and hot cup of soup. Great flavors all around and a great atmosphere to enjoy your time on the island!
The buttermilk chicken was over-cooked and poorly seasoned. The gravy is straight from a can. This place is really priced way too high for less than mediocre quality food. Do yourself a favor and eat anywhere else. Oh, and all the claims of the best clam chowder…. Yeah… Have had better from a can….
We ate at the hardware store on April 28, 2012, we found the hardware store to be pleasant in general; however there were some serious exception: The fish billed as fresh was not fresh, very crumbly, overcooked and left a bad taste. In addition it was noted that in the men’s restroom there was no soap visible which left a concern for how the employees washed their hands.
The Hardware Store Restaurant. Kind of disappointed. Spent extra money on 2 seafood specials and although the fish was cooked well, the rice which my husband got was AWFUL! It was very plain brown rice which was burnt and dry. Told the (very nice) waiter and he did bring more however it was still very dry and REALLY plain (kind of like minute rice). In the past I have really enjoyed the vegetables on the dinner plates. Tonight we each received about 3 slices of zuccinin and then just peppers and onion. Really….how much ARE zucchini this time of year?!
Hands down the best restaurant on Vashon.
