I was not a fan. My friends said South was an awesome place but I thought the food was bland, there was cilantro on everything, and it took forever to get our bill. I have had way better Mexican food elsewhere.
A Bit Stingy but Good Food. My girlfriend and I had lunch at South yesterday, and it was very enjoyable. The food tasted fresh (the salsa was excellent), the and flavors were wonderful. My Pork Carnitas were properly broiled before being served (a step that many restaurants skip), and the Habanero shrimp were spicy enough that I enjoyed the kick but not so spicy that I couldn’t enjoy the rest of my food afterwards. I understand that my S.O.’s Pascado Veracruz (cod) was also good, though I am taking her word for it. That said, it was pricey for what we got (or didn’t get). Of course, it’s Leavenworth so I expect to pay a bit more, and it was lunch, so I expect smaller portions, but even with those factors taken into consideration, it was not up to expectations. Unlike most Mexican places, there were no complimentary tortilla chips… they would have cost $4.45. (The place across the street from me not only provides fresh chips, but will also provide freshly cooked tortillas… both for free, while we’re waiting). The shrimp appetizer was 4 shrimp, for about $10. The lunch platters were $13 and $14, but still significantly smaller than I’ve ever seen at a Mexican place, even for lunch. That was actually fine… they were a good size for lunch, I just wish they’d been priced accordingly. However, these prices are pretty much in line with the town, so I can’t complain too much. All in all, it was enjoyable. The decor is contemporary and funky, the servers were friendly… I’d go back. smackandgattmore.com
Muy mal. It was the worse experience in a restaurant. Enchiladas verdes very dry salsa, the tortillas tasted like old and cold, the hot chocolates were serve in a glass for drinks!! even that we needed those for kids. The sopa de tortilla without the tortilla, and it soooo expensive for the amount and quality in the food… I never will be back to this restaurant.
South was very very tasty… Their verde salsa was at the very least delicious. South had a brownie that we didn’t enjoy (doused in chocolate sauce), but the burrito compensated nicely… Their chips were priced affordably.. I suggest to try their guacamole… –/ if in Leavenworth try this spot!
Good fish tacos, really good seafood relleno – we were outside table for 38 and had good service.
Wonderful. Always delicious. Can be loud, but that’s what makes it fun. Great salsas and late night happy hour menu! Best drinks in town!
