This place treated us horribly and the three breakfast items we had weren’t worth the $45+ that we spent! We called ahead to find out how late they serve breakfast. They told us waffles until 1pm, breakfast until 2pm. We were seated at 12:45, and were waiting to place our order at 5 minutes until 1. When my son ordered his waffles the waiter said waffles were turned off. They also didn’t have half their menu items available. They refilled coffee for their local buddies that they were whispering to, but not for us without having to get their attention, and they still did several other tasks before coming over with coffee. They were not busy, but treated us like we were a bother & didn’t have time for us. They spoke to us in a very rude, impatient manner & made snotty comments in response to our normal customer questions & requests. I felt abused & will NOT return or recommend others dine there.
A Pleasant Discovery. The restaurant is an unimposing cottage structure located in Seaview on the highway leading into Long Beach. If you’re not watching for it, you’ll likely drive past it. It’s worth the effort. The rather modest interior is open and inviting and the waiter was prompt and cheerful. My wife first ordered a Bloody Mary of which I took a sip and promptly ordered one of my own- must say it was the best Bloody Mary that I can recall. The breakfast menu listed hangtown fries- a dish often abused by cooks. It was also a delightful surprise. My estimation of the establishment rose considerably. We were all pleased with our meals and we shall return. The prices were very reasonable and atmosphere was pleasant. For those encumbered with small restless children looking for a quick, cheap meal, I would suggest perhaps one of the franchises located just down the road.
The Locals Were Right!!. Prior to visiting Long Beach a friend, who is a local to the area, recommended the 42nd Street Cafe. We gave it a try and were definitely not disappointed. The service was light years ahead of what I expected to find, the presentation was tremendous and the food was over the top wonderful. The flavors, the spices, textures and fresh ingredients combine to make a fabulous dinner. This restaurant also uses local suppliers to get the freshest fish, vegetables, eggs and more! Kudos for supporting the local growers.
We found this place by chance and what a find! The clams were the best I’ve ever had and the pasta was delicious. The place was packed with a great mix of locals and tourists and the service was friendly. Can’t wait to go back!
My favorite breakfast spot. Where else can you get beignets and deep friend razor clams for breakfast…..mmmmm good
One of my favorites. This has been a favorite of mine for years. Excellent comfort food–fried chicken and pot roast–and plenty of other great stuff.
Ok food, big bill. 42nd Street the night we visited, seemed to be the place to celebrate. The staff was friendly, even the owner came out to meet and greet. The quality of food is inconsistent, and quantity is lacking for the cost. An example is a half order of pan fried chicken at $15, consisted of a drumstick and thigh, pretty steep. Also the tri-tip was so overcooked, it was difficult to eat. All entrees are ala carte, so the average bill will be high. I would agree with another reviewer, if the restaurant was in a metro area it’s survival would be in question.
