The big easy choice. My husband and I just happened to stumble on this awesome mom pop and son shop. Unbeknownst to me the owners are retired USN MS chiefs. The food was incredible. We had the jambalaya, gumbo, fried okra and green tomatoes.. It was authentic New Orleans cuisine. Flavors we’re deep and rich. If you like it hot, they will make it as hot as you can stand. Friday night they had blues one man show that was icing on the cake. We highly recommend this place on your way home.
As authentic as we get in the PNW. We were visiting with a cousin and decided to try this place, since all of us liked Louisiana food. We were glad we did. The special appetizer was alligator bites so we ordered that. My wife and I have had them before and these were good. The cousin had not, but tried them and liked them. I had Shrimp and Grits, my wife had Jerk Chicken Skewers and sweet potato fries, the cousin had Creole Spaghetti with garlic bread. I had sweet tea, a weakness, and it was the real thing. The food was great, we ate it all and we were all happy. The service was friendly and good. We would go back.
Poor Service, Disappointing Food, Expensive. The first time I ate here, I wanted to show a foreigner some good American food. I got the sea food soup. It took just a little long to get the food. When we got it, the food wasn’t hot, it lacked cajun flavors, and all the meat was a bland consistency that I assume is from how it is frozen. My guest’s food wasn’t much better. If it didn’t cost so much, I might kept my expectations lower. The second time I ate here, it took maybe 30 minutes to get BEER. The place was full so we were sitting outside. The food took even longer than the beer. They didn’t apologize, offer any discounts, or anything to make up for the wait. For the price, I’d have expected them to care just a little about service. The food was better than my first experience, but it was still lacking cajun spice or flavor.Overall, I gave it a second try and I give it a 1 out of 5. The food prep is poor, the flavors are bland, the service is awful, and it’s overprices.
Amazingly Poor Owner Decision. As someone who loves good food, and loves a great deal, I was excited to go to Craving Cajun with my wife tonight to use my $20 certificate I purchased for $10 on Heraldnet.com. The expiration date was today, August 15. Cutting it close perhaps, but like any coupon, the offer is still valid on the day of expiration (think of any store coupon). Imagine our shock and disappointment when we entered an empty restaurant and were told that the coupon was no longer being accepted! Somehow, the owner has no clue how a coupon works. One of the employees embarrassingly told us that several people had been turned away. We asked for our $10 back and were told to contact the Herald. So, not only did we not get to use a coupon that was clearly still valid, we were told we had to get our money back elsewhere. Did I mention that the restaurant was empty? It amazes us that the owner of a young restaurant that wants to succeed would have such terrible customer service skills. Most restaurants accept coupons even after the expiration date because they want customers to have a good experience. Those customers then look upon that restaurant favorably for allowing an expired coupon. But that doesn’t even apply here because THIS coupon was still valid! We told the owner that they had lost a customer for life. This was not our first time at the Craving Cajun, but it will be the last, and we will not be shy about telling everyone we know about their lack of respect for customers.
Very poor service. Was looking forward to this new restaurant in town being that our family is from Louisiana. We had about an hour and a half to eat, which normally, should be sufficient for a smaller restaurant. We ordered drinks initially and it took 30 minutes to get 5 beers! We finally ordered our food and 45 minutes later, I had to tell them that we had to go and would need to take it with us. We left other family members and found out that it was another 30 minutes before the rest got their food! After all that, it was all cold and not very good. Very disappointing. We will not go back.
Food is delicious. Owners are great. Service generally good, but periodically kitchen gets backed up.
