Such a lovely hole in the wall! The restaurant itself is quite small – only a couple of tables along with counter seating. The sushi itself was delicious. I’ve usually only had conveyor belt sushi so this was a very welcome change from that. The sushi was fresh and made right in front of us. The chef was very friendly. I highly recommend the baked lobster roll and big roll. If you want dirt cheap sushi this is not the place for you. For three people and five filling rolls we spent a little over $90 but it was well worth it.

Fresh and Tasty. We had a delicious first meal at Taka of nigiri and sushi rolls. Albeit very tasty, we will definitely get the omakase boat next time- very healthy portion all for $50! We’ll be back!

Don’t go to Taka. It’s not what it used to be and Mr. Taka has a bad attitude! We have been going there for years and were shocked by our recent experience. We called ahead to see how busy they were since it’s a small restaurant and there were four of us. We like to sit at the sushi bar so if it is really busy that’s not possible or you have to wait. They told us that it was pretty quiet and took my wife’s name over the phone and that there were four of us and that we would be there around 8 or 8:15. When we showed up there were only 3 seats at the sushi bar as another couple had arrived and was seated there. We explained that we wanted to sit at the sushi bar, that we had called ahead and asked if they could pull up an extra chair or something. Mr. Taka and the head waitress had an interchange in Japanese and then she came to us. She said that Mr. Taka said we were a problem and that he had trouble with us before. (We have been there many times and never had any problem so I am at a loss as to what he was referring to.) Taka basically waived us off w a hand gesture. No one asked us to please sit at a table or offered any solution. To save face after this insult we walked out. In the parking lot we all spoke and agreed not to eat there. I stepped back in briefly and calmly explained to Mr. Taka that I felt he had brought shame to my family. He twirled his hand in the air and pointed to the door. I left never to return again. Good bye Taka. I guess I understand now why your business seems to be sliding. Why the variety of fish isn’t what it used to be and why you no longer offer Omakase unless someone pre-orders it a day before. With your strange accusatory behavior and your dismissal of long time customers you can’t afford to buy the fish you need to keep the restaurant at a high level. A sad decline for an old sushi master. My advice to patrons is do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. There are many options at more vibrant sushi restaurants where the customers are treated with respect and the volume of the restaurant allows a steady flow of fresh fish. If you want your sushi old and crusty like the sushi master that owns the place then Taka is for you.

What a find!. This discrete restaurant set back in a strip mall does not look like much from the outside proving looks are deceiving. There are only a handful of tables but it never has felt crowded. The service is always friendly and attentive. The sushi fresh and inventive. Thrilled to have found a place up north that serves top notch sushi!

What Taka lacks in size and decor, it makes up for in quality sushi at great prices. Our $50 boat fed all 3 of us and every piece featured had perfect rice and excellent flavor. Taka’s creativity presents itself in subtle ways with every bite- a touch of line here, a pickled flourish there… Just right.

I’ve been going here for years, and I just can’t seem to stop! The sushi is always fresh, the dishes are authentic, and the price is right. This is a tiny hole in the wall, so don’t expect to bring your extended family and be seated. Also, if the place is busy, be patient. Taka is the only one preparing sushi, so he will get to you when he can. This place is highly recommended! Try it out, and if you love it, offer to buy Taka a drink!
