REALLY GOOD FOOD. Ras Dashen…… I need a minute to calm down….. I love Ras Dashen. I am a suburbanite and when ever there is a special occasion for my wife and I, we are off to Ras Dashen. Yes we have to drive 2+ hours round trip but it is soooo worth it. The part I HATE most about Ras Dashen is when I get full. Imagine a small Northside-of-Chicago-restaurant on a Friday night with some funky-good-vibe music from the live band in the background. As you pause to come up for air from eating, you look outside and the L is sparking past in the distance. You might be sitting a just a regular table or you might be sitting at an authentic small round table that they use in Ethiopia (I guess). And if you are lucky enough, the head chef may be roasting some coffee beans and bring them around for everyone to smell. I don’t know if it is a tradition or keeps away the evil spirits or what but they have never done that for me at Chili’s. I could tell you how good the food is but you might not believe me. Instead I will be as objective as possible as you might of guessed that I would gush on for another 2 paragraphs about that too. The bread used to pick up the food is not like any bread you have had before. It is a cross between pancake, sourdough, and jello. They offer a good vegetarian selection on their menu as well as a good meat offering. Many of the dishes have a thicker sauce to them and range from a 1 to a 7 on the spiciness chart. There are some very interesting wines to try there as well. I hope to see you there.
