It’s been awhile since my last visit and I’m still thinking this place is just okay. I ordered the rib eye, which was done sous vide. Not really able to get it rare, but I was warned beforehand. We opened with brussels, which I thought were a bit hammered. Overcooked to a burntness that was a bit bitter. My steak ended up being sort of ordinary. I was hoping for spectacular and packed with flavor, but it was just so so. I was looking for the fattiness to come through and it just sat there. I think the sous vide made it a bit more firm that I wanted, but I made it through it.

A celebration of beef. As the name suggests, this place is all about the cow. In addition, there is an excellent charcuterie selection and the marrow bones are excellent… very rich and satisfying. Frisee with bacon also excellent. Portions are very generous. We shared a 16 oz. ribeye and still had half to take home. Authentic frites and haricots verts, too. Capped off the dinner with profiteroles. Don’t miss their 3 versions of Negronis. Overall, as good or better than the finest steak houses.

Mother;Day at Red Cow. We booked a table for four at 7 pm on Mother’s Day. Our reservation was confirmed by phone the day before. I should have known there was going to be trouble when the hostess said our reservation was only for two, not four. Be that as it may, and without any delay, we did get seated on time.We got our drinks and food order in within 10-15 mins after getting seated and we got our drinks and salad shortly afterwards. But we had to wait an hour to get the main course. Our waiter did inform us that the kitchen was experiencing some difficulties that caused a back up. Another 30 mins passed after that bit of information before we got our food. It would have been nice if the server offered us some bread (only one of us ordered a first course) as we were quite hungry, but no, no bread and no further apologies..The food was very good and all were satisfied with the presentation and taste. Unfortunately, it was virtually impossible to have a conversation with our table partners because it was so very very loud. Just a little of sound deadening would have gone a long way to make table talk more possible (the inside, while nicely designed, uses a lot of cement, mirrors and other hard surfaces that reflect sound, not absorb it).It will be awhile before I go back. If I do make a recommendation, it will be with the caveat that service is slow and impossible to have a conversation due to the noise.Steve Clemons
