I went to Thaiku several weeks ago and was blown away… like I’ve said before, I am a Thai food critic because my town had the best restaurant for this cuisine. So I was super impressed by the authenticity, the jaw dropping flavors, and lovely staff here.My dad had come to visit me and we knew right away we wanted to eat in Phinney Ridge since it’s our favorite neighborhood in Seattle. There were several places we debated but we finally decided on Thaiku. You walk in to this refurbished bungalow and are instantly charmed by the wonderful decor and kind staff. We sat down at a small table and ordered a traditional appetizer called Mieng Kahm, which is bai cha plu leaves and you wrap and bunch of wonderful things in it like ginger, coconut, peanuts, lime, and chili. It was out of this world delicious with rich flavors and it was also wonderfully plated. We also ordered Phad Thai (a must), a steamed vegetable curry dish, and some chicken satay. It was all so delicious and I can’t wait to go back again.
Different Thai Restaurant. It looks and feels like a hipster Thai restaurant. The dish names are a little different and the menu looks pretty authentic. The restaurant is in a converted house so it’s pretty cozy.
My bf and I showed up at 9:30 when the place closes at 10. The hostess blatantly checked the clock after we asked for a table. She sat us and told us the kitchen closes at 945. We ordered and they obviously didn’t want to cook any extra chicken than what was already cooked …so we got about three bite size pieces with our dish. they actually started turning over chairs while we were still dining to let us know it’s closing time. Horrible customer service and mediocre food.
Yuck!! The Pad Thai literally tasted like ketchup! If you can’t make a good Pad Thai don’t even bother. Not to mention you can hardly get anything on the menu made vegetarian, which is lame. Never coming back.
Will never go back. It’s like they didn’t even try, the food was ice cold, bothe the orders were wrong and they forgot the rice. When I went back for it they made my run my card again. The worst part was the rice was overcooked and cold.
Wonderful Experience!. Love the fresh rolls and skewers they offer and the yellow curry is a must to try! The place is so hip too; the bar is one of a kind and make sure you check out the basement which is made to look like an opium den.
Lunch: Fail. Had lunch here on a Monday afternoon. The place seemed pretty busy, and we waited for 30 minutes for our food. While we waited, the waitress brought one of our drinks but completely forgot the other drink. When lunch arrived, my pad thai was gummy and luke-warm, and my boyfriend’s meal was literally just boiled white chicken on white rice with a side of soy sauce. He sent it back and we had mine boxed up so we could go elsewhere. They ended up not charging us for lunch, but I’m pretty sure we won’t be going back there.
