Dim Sum House: First Impressions. So I heard about this place, even drove by it dozens of times, but I never stopped in, until earlier this week. I have only been there once, and I have only had dim sum items, but I discovered a very interesting truth. The steamed items I had were at least as good as I expected, and the leaf-wrapped sticky rice was particularly good. Now the fried items were a whole other story. This is where this place really shines. Those who would say that you can’t have dim sum without the cart, need to learn a little bit about physics! Oil can be heated to a higher temperature than water, and still remain liquid. So, fried items come out hotter than boiled, braised, or even steamed ones. That is part of the reason that fried items that are held on a steam table or at room temperature become soggy and soft quickly. Since Dim Sum House fries your food to order, it is hotter and crispier than you get at any establishment that uses the classic cart. Don’t get me wrong, I like the carts. They are great for steamed items and ambiance. Nevertheless, you cannot beat the freshly fried fare at Dim Sum House.Next time I go, i will have to order some of their soup and noodle offerings. Also, they are open at 9am!
A great dim sum when you’re on the budget. You really can’t find any other dim sum in Seattle this cheap that will taste good. Since there are only two people who run the place, you have to order the plates, but the menu has pictures if you don’t know what they’re called. The food is cooked to order so it comes to you piping hot. Everything always comes out right and even on days when we pig-out, the bill is always under $20 for two people.
Fantastic food. The food is pretty good and cheap! The beef chow foon and some of the dimsum dishes were fantastic. Got to check this place out. Like the other reviewer said, there is no carts. You have to order the dish. The advantage with this is that the food comes out really hot and fresh! Not cold in the cart!
Suprising little place…. I was pleasantly surprised with this place. I went there alone with a magazine and sat down. The waitress dished up VERY reasonably priced dim sum and you can order whatever you like on the menu. You don’t have to wait for the little ladies with the carts, you just go go go! Wonderful service.
Nice little place. My wife and I stopped there before going to the VA….it was just great, wonton soup was best I had.
