My fianc and I went to dinner at Bookwalter last night and were immediately impressed with the atmosphere, staff and wine. The didn’t have a table available right away so they seated us on the patio (covered, enclosed), took our wine order and had a table ready when the came back with the wine. The wine was great, although more of a $20-30 dollar bottle than the $50 we paid I would say. That was when things started to get funny. We ordered, and they brought our salad and soup quickly and they were both pretty good. I ordered the ribeye and my fianc, being vegetarian, was told that the chef could invent something for her as there were no vegetarian options on the menu. Our food arrived and my steak was a lot smaller than I expected, $28 at maybe 8 oz. I understand a sirloin or a filet being that small, but not a ribeye. But it was never the less cooked perfectly medium, which seems to be hard for most restaurants, and I enjoyed it. My fianc, however, got some sort of Thai dish (rice noodles in a Thai sauce with macadamia nuts and arugula) which was not good especially because the sauce was very overwhelming. We weren’t going to say anything but the manager came over and asked how everything tasted and offed to bring something else. They brought a salad. A salad?! We had already ordered a salad, if we had wanted another we would have said so. That was a huge cop out on the chefs part and the manager shouldn’t have allowed it. The other thing was that we had to poor our own wine twice. Our check came, $136 with tip. Way to much for what we got.

The atmosphere here is a bit strange. We gavew it three chances: twice for happy hour and once for live music. The wines are average. The food is pretty good but we couldn’t get over the strangeness we experienced.
