TERRIBLE!. I went there with my fiancee and the locals ran us out because she wanted a mix drink (not beer) and the bar tender watched it all and didn’t do a thing about his very drunk, unruly, and disrespectful patrons!! staff is very not reliable to do their job to keep the place safe and orderly!
Like other reviewers have expressed, I really wanted to love this place and I love supporting local business, but there was just too many faults to give Mckays a thumbs up overall. To be fair, I did not try their food, but I did notice it was on the pricey side (15 bucks for a nachos appetizer)… For 15 bucks they had better be some damn good nachos and a lot of them, but alas, just an observation. The real misstep at Mckays is the service, which was just one step above awful. There was no greeting or direction when we came through the door, which left my friend and I lost briefly. We decided to sit at the bar on our own accord, which was half clear of people, but full of dirty dishes and trash at the empty seats…gross, and not bussed properly. Our bartender was not very friendly, didn’t offer us menus, and frequently turned and walked away as we were talking to her about the beers. She definitely wasn’t happy to be there serving people and didn’t seem to know jack about the beer, or simply didn’t care. If that weren’t bad enough, they seemed to be out of about 30% of their beer selection. On the plus side, I like that they have an enormous beer selection, both draft and otherwise, but being out of so much is misleading and dissapointing. The beers we did manage to get were cold and awesome. Maybe I’m mistaken and being badly sold out is status quo for that type of beer selection? I can’t be sure because it’s the only place in the Tri like it, and I haven’t had the opportunity to visit other big-selection bars. Ultimately, I really like what they are trying to do here, because I love me some beer. If only they’d step up their service game and start thinking more customer-focused, I think they’d be more successful. As it stands now, it’s hard for me to want to come back unless I’m really thirsty for something I can’t get in a store.
