We met a friend for an afternoon coffee. It was hot, so we went for indoor seating and it was reasonably cool and nice, with both tables and comfortable couches. The music is a bit loud inside, but we could still talk. Since it was hot we all had iced and blended coffee drinks and our friend also got a peanut butter cookie, which was very good. My wife had a Milky Way drink and I had The Bomb. We were all happy with our drinks and would stop again.
Frankly, I do not have a sophisticated coffee palete, so I won’t pretend to offer an intelligent review of their drinks. Roasters is the McLaren’s or Cheers of coffee shops. Kudos for creating an environment with the perfect laid back feel. One does not walk into Roasters, one is welcomed in. It has a guirky hipness, due to the thrift store decor and decidedly non-top 40 tunes. Meeting someone for a first date coffee? Go to Roasters. Feeling alone and need some energy? Go to Roasters. Trying to study, finish that big report, or get started on the Next great American novel? Yes, go to Roasters. The Baristas will remember your favorite drink and your name.
While their in-house coffee and espresso drinks are well made, nicely priced, and delicious, I come here 99% of the time with just one purpose in mind: BEANS. Sure, they are twice as expensive as grocery store beans, but (when prepared properly) are MUCH better. Those beans are roasted 3-10 days before they reach you, and the difference is insane. Those fresh beans are worth every penny, and they’ve forever ruined stale grocery store coffee for me.
Customer Service PLUS!!!. Got a not-so-good recommendation on WB coffee from one of Wes’s crew. I complained and Wes ponied up two pounds of dark and medium dark roast for me to try on my home machine. Nobody’s perfect, but anyone who offers up compensation equal to or, in this case, far exceeding the impact of the problem, scores VERY HIGH in my book. This is not just the owner’s policy. Several months ago, one of the baristas caught my wife making a face after sipping her coffee. The barista ran over to us and asked if we wanted her to make another latte. We didn’t need a new coffee, but the offer to make up for even a perceived mistake stuck with us. Explains why we keep stopping at Roasters.
Very good….. We have had opportunity to grab lattes at Roaster’s several times when visiting relatives in town. It’s a cozy, friendly coffee house, well-staffed, and serves excellent coffee.
