My fiance and I did not feel like waiting 45 minutes for the Matador. I spotted the Cafe Vincero sign from across the street, noticed it was not packed like every place else, and we went over to have a closer look. Before going in, we decided to read a few reviews and see if they had a menu posted. A guy who was sitting outside getting some air informed us he was the owner and said his name was Kevin. He SAW we were deciding whether we should go in or not and heard us talking it over. After some talk (and reluctance) we decided to go inside and give his restaurant a try. There was no one at the front to greet us and there was no sign stating whether we should seat ourselves or wait to be seated. There were menus laying around so we grabbed a few and started walking to an open table when Kevin saw us and told us to sit anywhere and he would send someone over. We got to a table (one that Kevin even said was a good table) where I took off my jacket and got comfortable. We sat……and sat………and sat……..and sat…….A few staff members talked to customers at the tables around us, but never came over to ours or even acknowledged our presence. After however long it was, we decided to just gather our things and leave. At first, we thought this might have just been a really crappy night and maybe this was not how things usually go. After reading similar reviews and seeing how this Kevin responds to people with negative comments about his place, things make perfect sense. In the end, my advice is to keep your money and go someplace where the people working understand the most BASIC of restaurant etiquette.

This place is up and coming…probably the best kept secret in Tacoma. It’s not for everyone, but if you want a place where you can actually talk to your date, taste the ingredients in your food and enjoy your evening, then this place is for you. Veteran owned and operated with passion…the kitchen is in full view of the dining area so you can see the people back there making your food, nice touch. Great food, great prices, full bar and great feeling overall. I’ll be back for sure!
