The Cliff House is rated a 4.0 because the view of Commencement Bay and Tacoma is unbeatable at this cliffside restaurant. Wednesday’s are prime because there are regattas weekly. Go for a drink and appetizer. Entres are a bit overpriced. Breakfast is my favorite at this restaurant. Love the omelette and Benedict.
Good place. Awesome happy hour but very busy and understaffed so you don’t get the attention you need when you actually need something. But good food and okay service. I probably will come for a good happy hour again.
We were very disappointed with the food for the most part. The duck with blood orange sauce was disappointingly sour without any hint of sweetness . Accompanying Chinese greens were tough as leather & when I informed my waiter he waived it off as blood orange being bitter naturally .Chineese greenes are supposped to be tough at the stalk. What about the tops? Theere’s no excuse unless your aim is to break your teeth on vegetables. Not good. The last blow was we were told that with our coupon it was only good for entrees. Ttenderloin tips with soup did not count as an entree, only the duck. Before ordering & upon entering we showed them our coupon & even when we ordered they said everything was fine. What liars! Do not patronize this worn out establishment .
Came here for our anniversary and was very pleased. Waitress was very knowledgeable as to good wine pairings and was very friendly. Will be coming back!
I liked the sourdough…but. Took my mom to the Cliff house for her 90th birthday dinner.I will not go back. All I can say is if you are going to sell your restaurant on pretention and hype, you had better walk the talk and be nothing but class, not classless.I’m a foodie. I don’t buy into pretention or hype. But I don’t mind paying the price on the menu if you live upto the expectation. If you are going to charge me $34 for3 bacon wrapped scallops and 3-30 ct per lb prawns, they hadbetter be executed flawlessly. These were not. The bacon waswrapped around twice and not cooked til crisp on the outside,so the inner layer of bacon was nearly raw pork fat.I don’t think the cook used any seasoning other than the baconand the thimble of lobster sauce on the seafood. The saffron risotto was cold and undercooked…tip to the chef, risotto should be served on heated plates. Now I must say the presentation was beautiful, and its a shame thecook ruined the obviously high quality ingredients, even on the secondtry. Now my mother’s halibut was prepared perfectly, but the plating andaccompaniments could have been prepared by boy scouts on a camp stove. The sauted vegies turned out to be yellow squash split in half andgrilled on a gas flame. Lets just say the mild flavor of the squashwith no seasoned was drowned by the propane flavor. There were only two tables of customers at this time, so it was not thatthey were slammed. Other things to note, my place setting was not clean. Our waitress’ white shirt looked like she had rolled in the dumpsterbefore coming to our table. The Maitre’D was making snarky remarks about our complaints that we could overhear. Now he did comp my meal. But its sad the best thing I tasted there was the complimentary sourdough bread.
Easter buffet was god awful and overpriced. Charged me for a cup of coffee on a 30+ dollar meal. Worst insult was no response when I contacted them to complain. Major fail and no stars.
We were very disappointed to learn from other disappointed customers that our favorite psychics John and Doug are no longer welcome at this restaurant. This is unfortunate because we certainly did not come here for the mediocre food and subpar drinks. We will not be returning.
