Great local spot. Amazing little local spot with a family feel. Plan to either get really lucky or wait a while for a table, but in my experience it’s worth it. Not a place if you’re in a hurry, but a great community spot with great food made with local ingredients.
Great little family place. Food great freashly made at time of order. It does take longer, definately don’t go if in hurry. Place is small might gave to wait for table. But worth it
Tiny Diner Heaven. If you filled Old Milwaukee to capacity, it would hold about 25 people, well 27 with Pat & Chad the wonder couple that run/own this little diner. Pat is the kind of person who, after a couple visits, remembers your name, drink order and what you like. She’s a dream diner waitress! Many will tell you to get here early…but night owls can rest assured that getting here after lunch time is okay too. Old Milwaukee is only open til 3, and 1 – 2:30 is a sweet time to go. They serve breakfast all day so you don’t have to worry about getting your eggs!Pat is an amazing baker. If they have scones (they usually run out) – get one. If she has cake – snag it. Chad is the cook and he makes fab egg dishes – the bacon scram is one of my fav diner breakfasts of all time. Other standouts are the regular french toast and the cinnamon roll french toast….no, it doesn’t taste like a cinnamon roll – it IS a cinnamon roll dipped in batter. Carb overload wonderland.
There are only a few tables since the restaraunt is so small so the wait was horrible. This was understandable but the wait for our food was horrific. We waited almost an hour after we placed our order. I ordered a scrambled omelette which turned out to just be average in the flavor department. My girlfriends meal was a few levels above mine but that wasn’t a daunting task. She had the apple sausage scramble and though it was unique and flavorfu it was definitely not worth the wait.
Get There Early. Whenever I’m in Tacoma, I head to Old Milwaukee for breakfast. You can’t just go on a whim, though, you kind of have to plan it out. There are only seven tables, and the proprietor (Pat) has put up a sign that if you are in a hurry, they aren’t. And it’s true. If you want to eat there, go early on the weekend to secure a spot. You don’t go to Old Milwaukee for a quick bite before your hiking or boating trip. You go to sit and enjoy the delicious food. Pat’s husband does all the cooking and his scones and ham steak are absoutely perfect.
