This is a university place to dine so don’t expect anything fancy in terms of decor. The food was really good! We had vegetarian pupusa, veggie taco, veggie burrito and fried yucca. The yucca was really nice, and the pupusa was very nicely done – I have beans, cactus, some sort of traditional herb.Actually, all the food was really good. The reasons for the low rating: 1) the front cash person didn’t speak English very well and didn’t know what was in the dishes so had to keep going and asking the people in the back what was in the dishes. She was on her phone the whole time we were trying to figure out what to get. 2) bathrooms were outside and the women’s washroom had a sign to say don’t close the door! 3) there were a few ants in the restaurant, and we saw that after we had eaten..

It was fine, but nothing really special. The Pupusa was stuffed full and had good flavors but not memorable. The tamal was wet and tasteless. The pastelito was fine. The fried yucca was ok. The tres leches cake was the best part of the meal, pretty good but not great. Overall not bad, but not dying to return.

I got the #6 veggie. Veg Pupusa were hot, fresh and delicious! Taco was also very well prepared. Rice was ok, while beans were fine!Overall an amazing place for Pupusa. Its a tiny place, not decorated, having small TV running some spanish channel, but offering excellent food.

Delicious Pupusas. I had eaten pupusas a few times before, so when I moved to the U-District I figured I’d try this place. Two pupusas (circles of delicious fried corn tortilla 4-5in in diameter filled with meat, cheese, jalapenos, etc) with beans and rice is just over $8, which is a solid deal. They are very much superior to the pupusas I had tried before, and anyone who enjoys any sort of mexican food will enjoy these, though they are from central america. Another nice thing: after having eaten here maybe three times, I walked in at 8:29 and placed my order at 8:30. I didn’t realize until around 8:33 that they closed at 8:30, but the man that has taken my order each time didn’t show even a hint of annoyance. Considering there are places on the ave that probably wouldn’t have even served me, it makes me like this place more.I recommend for sure. I eat here every week or two, and I’m sure once you’ve tried it you will as well.

Pupuseria? Pooperia! Crapy service, crapy prices, crapy food. Nuff said…

Like Your Tia Makes!. I have been eating pupusas since solid foods became a staple in my diet. I’ve eaten them in El Salvador, Hondouras, Spain, Guatemala, and in my apartment on Capitol Hill. The pupusas and platano fritos at Guanaco’s are the absolute BEST! I would say that these pupusas are tied with the best ones I have ever had in my life, which came straight from the kitchen of my Tia Gloria. There are two locations of this restuarant: The U District and Capitol Hill. So there is never an excuse not to go! I have brought so many people to this place. Pupusas are also delicious reheated, so buy a ton of them and save them for the rest of the week!
