Came here with a friend while visiting town and they said it was one of their favorite restaurants. I do have to say it was delicious. It’s a bit of a twist on classic Mexican food, and a bit nicer. The drinks were exceptional and I loved their carnitas. The chips were fried in house I believe and would have been like dessert with some cinnamon and sugar (hint hint)!
Wife and I came for dinner and drinks, service and food were fantastic. My wife loved the baja fish tacos, the carnitas is like I remember from my time in Mexico years ago!
Awesome menu. If you expect the usual Latin food you will be happily surprised. The choices are creative and food very fresh. Location is sweet as well. Not cheap, but worth it!
Had lunch here today and it was delicious! I had the carnitas lunch special and it was worth it! The portion size was perfect!
Latin bistro good for visitors…. I visited South in the Pybus Market for a work lunch. We were seated outside on the patio due to our larger party. The wait staff were very nice on getting us together and arranging the umbrellas to cover us. The wait staff was great and I have not complaints. One: South is not a mexican restaurant. It is a latin bistro. No complientary chips and salsa. No giant platters of food with tons of rice and beans on the side. If you are looking for that, you are in the wrong place. We were aware coming into lunch, so we were not surprised. Two: South comes with Bistro prices. Think about $10-$15 per plate.Three: The drinks options looked good, but I was not able to partake. That may be what draws people in.Four: They do take reservations so call ahead with a group.I ordered the Crispy fish taco platter with three pan seared cod tacos, cabbage slaw, and creamy dressing. My meal came with tortilla chips and cabbage salsa. The tacos came at a decent rate considering the size of the dinner party. The fish tacos were fine and the combination of flavors worked (not too overbearing to cover the taste of the fish). The tacos were the size you would get at a taco truck (hand sized, double stacked corn tortillas) with three medallions of fish on each taco. I was glad I was not super hungry or I would have been disappointed. The chips were fine and the salsa was nothing to write home about. All in all, an okay experience. I would not go there if I was paying since I do not see the worth in $10 fish taco platter that I can get at a taco truck for half the price. The experience and food was not worth the cost and inconvenience. South is a good option for Pybus and visitos from out of town. Locals will just stick to the many other options around town instead.
Unfortunately disappointing. Over priced for the cold, off-tasting dishes & small portions. Stale chips @ $5 a basket and extra charge for salsa 🙁 Not one happy customer out of 4 from our dining party. Save yourself the negative experience.
Good location for a trendy fresh latin restaurant. Wenatchee does have a lot of options for really good mexican food, but eventually they kind of blend together. South, however, doesn’t really feel like mexican food, so much as a trendy bistro-style restaurant offering fresh-ingredient food that uses latin food as a jumping off point for some really creative dishes. As such South fits in perfectly in Pybus Market–our newest Wenatchee claim to fame, a big always open farmer’s market full of fresh fruit, meats and other delicacies. That said, their experimental cuisine (like most experiments) doesn’t always work–but when it does, as with their Cod Poblano, it’s delicious and unlike anything your bound to get. South also has a restaurant in Leavenworth, the Bavarian Village town, but it’s always been a little weird there. This is a much better venue and the signage and open design of the restaurant (as well as the beautiful furnature that all smells like fresh cut wood) all benefit from the new location. It’s very much worth a visit. I don’t know that there’s enough appealing options on the menu that I could eat here all the time–but as an expeience it was really great!
