Mashiko is closed for lunch – we found this out firsthand today as we headed out for a sushi fix. No worries, as Azuma was right down the street. Our service was great with the noticeable exception that the miso soup came out about halfway through our meal.We went with three rolls: California (Imitation crab, cucumber and avocado), Poki (Ahi tuna and scallions with chili & sesame oil) and Tropicana (Tuna, avocado, and mango). The California roll was good, as per usual for a CA roll. The Poki heat of the chili added a nice depth and it was a tie between that and the nice surprise of mango in the Tropicana that tied these two rolls as the best of the meal.Solid good sushi here!
Fantastic clean flavored sushi!. Since moving here from the bay area I’ve been looking for a solid sushi place. I’ve found it! Great service, spicy tuna with huge chunks of fresh ahi. No need for overwhelming sauces, their fish was perfectly fresh and just what sushi should be.
Swim…Run. Don’t listen to novice sushi virgins. If you like this place, you are just hungry/have a numb tongue and you are better off picking up prepackaged at Metropolitan Market (at least you will get some personality at check out/from the deli). Wait until you can go to Shiros in Belltown or Umi’s and then you will have a baseline to compare. Azuma is the McDonalds of sushi, but McDonalds has better service and the same consistent stand-bys. Anyone that recommends this place will do anything to only eat in West Seattle or is clueless that we have Masuku, the only good sushi restaurant in that neighborhood, but hard to get a table. Always busy, but not as good as the other 2mentioned
One Tropicana roll. Great place for lunch their bento boxes are filling as well as tasty the tempura is light and fresh. The sushi is fresh as well and you can’t go wrong with poki roll or the Tropicana roll made spicy both are always a hit with everyone I take.
On the two blocks of the Junction proper, there’s a surprising number of sushi options. And Azuma isn’t the one people usually talk about, whether the conversation is about an avant garde combination of flavors or food poisoning. And while avoiding the latter is always a plus, avoiding the former can be a question. While they may not be cutting edge, Azuma offers clean, fresh, and awesome old school Japanese sushi. Seattle is a seafood haven, and they take full advantage of it. They may not offer the most complex in recipes, but pulling off fantastic sushi with nothing but fish and a knife is an enviable skill. And they have it in spades. If you want simple, delicious sushi, served with a friendly welcome, at a decent price. It’s hard to top Azuma. This is the place that made my teriyaki ordering missus a real sushi junky.Oh yeah … fantastic gyoza as well 🙂
Good sushi!. Love the atmosphere in this place, and the sushi toO!
Azuma? Yes Please. This place is pretty good, The sashimi butterfish was smooth, fresh and buttery just like it should be. I wanted to eat the entire fish. The service is FAR better than its sushi neighbors.
