Unless You Live In Lynden, Its Not Worth The Drive. Weve found a few good restaurants at the Silver Reef Casino recently, so we thought we would check out the Northwood Casino restaurants. There are only three of them, and only Chefs looked at all interesting. I have so many comments that Ill itemize them as briefly as possible. Maybe then I can figure out how to vote.Ambience: Think 1970s Holiday Inn restaurant.Service: The waiter was a nice guy who was totally clueless about the menu. He couldnt even describe the sauce on the fish of the day even though hes had the dish! And ordering drinks from him was tortuous. Bread: None whatsoever. Before dinner drinks: My wife ordered a margarita, specifically with lime juice, triple sec and tequila. She got one with orange juice. The waiter said that there was a miscommunication between him and the bar tender. Its understandable. Lime and Orange do sound an awful lot alike. I had a martini. It was horrible, almost undrinkable. The only one Ive had as bad as this was the one at The Loft in Bellingham. I recommended they fire the bartender there. Perhaps they did and he got a job at this place.Soups: My wifes French onion soup was pretty good. My New England style clam chowder was very creamy and tasted alright, but had microscopic particles of clam and no discernible potato in it. It almost seemed like they hit the soup with an immersion blender. It was also lukewarm. Entres: Both of our baked potatoes were very slightly undercooked and only lukewarm- the butter barely melted. Her prime rib dip sandwich was not bad. The serving was generous but the beef was a little overcooked and not very hot. She liked the au jus, but I thought it was way too salty. My fish of the day, sturgeon, was great. Just about as good as it gets. However, the puttanesca sauce (tomatoes, olives, capers, garlic) lacked capers and garlic, as far as I could taste and was bland. My asparagus was cooked perfectly. So, one can get some decent food here, but as I reread my review I realize that I would never make the drive from Bellingham to this place just to eat here. If you are going to a casino to gamble (I dont) then head to the Silver Reef Casino, where there are at least two restaurants, maybe three that blow this place away. If you live in Lynden, you might explore the menu and find some good stuff. Otherwise, its not worth the drive.
