The atmosphere is modern, comfortable, and stunning. It’s the perfect setting for a celebration or a date night. The menu has a wide range of house-made creative offerings: dry-aged pork chop, bacon-wrapped meatloaf, smoked duck breast, woodstone flatbreads, bison burger, deviled eggs, chicken and waffles, and so much more! The craft cocktail menu is innovative and the wine menu offers a great local selection. The service is excellent! They have a great staff who cares about the guest experience, and the product they are serving. You won’t be disappointed!
Full disclosure: I work with this team. Still, after speaking with the team that looks after this new restaurant, I appreciate how difficult it is to start from scratch, let alone build a reputation. This is a completely new brand, and the food is locally sourced as much as possible, and you can really tell the difference. There are some fantastic flavors in this restaurant and I get educated about what things should taste like whenever I go. I think they’re setting a whole new standard in Bellingham for the ‘foodie’ culture. Yes, they make the food from scratch, so that definitely makes a huge difference in quality. I have done northwater for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and loved it every time. I have to say, the fries are amazing!
This relatively new restaurant is in the Holiday Inn near the airport. Our first impression was pretty good, although they did make a couple of mistakes which affected our rating of the place adversely. We started with a complementary mini-appetizer of Parmesan Focaccia with Olive Tapenade, which was very nice. My wife didnt order an entre, but had three smaller dishes: the Caesar Salad, Fire Roasted Tomato Soup, and the Pork Mole Tacos. The salad, which featured a good amount of anchovies, was well above average. Its only fault was that the lettuce could have been a little crisper. The soup was excellent. The tacos, which turned out to be quite a substantial dish, consisted of white corn tortillas (very likely made on site), ginger slaw and queso fresco in addition to a generous portion of pork mole. They suffered from a mole sauce that was bitter and she couldnt finish them. I had the House Burger with Baked Lentil Fries. Ive never heard of lentil fires, so I had to try them and found them to be pretty good. The burger, to which I added smoked cheddar cheese and bacon, was way overcooked (I ordered medium rare and got medium well). Normally I would send it back (they did offer to cook me another one) but we were in a hurry so I ate it. Except for the overcooking, it was really pretty darn good. My only other objection was that its an eight ounce burger, which I think is too much meat. Thankfully, I didnt order an appetizer. So, if they cooked the burger correctly and made a decent mole sauce, this would have been a 4.0 quality dinner. As it is, Ill give them a 3.5.
