At first, Dong Thap did not give any impression and the waitress kind of rude. But we still gave it a try and ordered pho with steak, tendon, and flank in smallest portion. While waiting, watching the tv and saw their Superbowl Challenge. Anyone finished their largest bowl (really its super huge), it is for free. Whoa. We love the broth flavor and the meat is so tender and juicy, they just melt in our mouths. And the fresh spring roll is so fresh and the peanut sauce is so good (sorry peanut allergic). The rice menu also superb. We ordered chicken and fried spring roll. Overall the dinner was fully satisfied.
We went for their monster bowl of pho, but not for a muk bung. Shared a bowl amongst 3 of us. Contrary to what we thought, you can have any size, assortment in the bowl, they just throw it all in as it’s not one set bowl. S, M, L, XL and then the monster bowl. The noodles are freshly made, which oddly enough, was not to my liking, as it lacked the al dente satisfaction of machine made dried noodles. The broth was mild and light which leads me to think it was more pork/chicken based. Service was very attentive and pleasant. I tried to make a reservation on yelp, and was answered immediately. (No reservations required). A bit of parking in the back. Clean and modern. Worth it for the monster bowl photo opportunity.
Travelled all the way from Vancouver to try Dong Thap Noodle’s ginormous bowl of pho. Though I didn’t try the 45$ superbowl challenge, I still enjoyed a 25$ massive bowl of pho. It certainly is massive but it left a little to be desired. The broth of the soup wasn’t very bold or demanding, but passive and a little weak. It was very mediocre. The rice noodles were a lot more flat and different from what I am used to as well. I will say I quite enjoyed the quality and quantity of the meat. I will give novelty points for serving the largest bowl of pho in the world.
