Especially in this economy. I am such a fan of Saigon Deli that it took me awhile to be willing to give another bahn mi a chance. I’m glad I did, because the tofu sandwich at Seattle Deli is definitively better than Saigon Deli’s.At Saigon Deli, it’s filled with a wet red sauce. At Seattle Deli there’s no red sauce and it’s significantly spicier. I’m into the spice so I’ll be fulfilling my $2 delicious sandwich needs at Seattle Deli instead (unless another bahn mi comes to steal my heart away.)Much like Saigon Deli, there’s no place to sit here. You come in, make your choice of meat (or no meat in my case) and are holding a sandwich a few minutes later. They also have a deli case which contains all kinds of things I didn’t recognize as well as tasty little coconut creme pastries.
A great reminder that you can still stuff yourself for under $5. I write this review only b/c the previous reviewer did not like my beloved seattle deli, and that is just not right.i’ll be the first to admit, it’s not like this place has incredible or amazing food. but when my financial resources were once close to zero, this place kept me full and satisfied (back then of course, bhan mis were only $1.50).nevertheless, this ID staple offers a myriad of traditional vietnamese fare for ridiculously low prices. vermicelli noodle dishes w/ pork and egg rolls coupled w/ fresh veggies goes for $3.50. chicken bhan mi’s go for $2.25. and if you get there in the early afternoon, make sure to get the freshy fried sesame doughnuts for 50 cents a piece. oh and fried egg rolls are 2 for a buck, and fresh spring rolls w/ shrimp are 2 for $2. and who cares if parking sucks? there’s plenty available up the hill so just walk a few feet. and who cares if they don’t take credit? anyone who dines regularly in the ID, or at the establishment of any ethnic joint for that matter, should not be surprised. if you are short on cash, but still want to eat freshly prepared and tasty food, come here. and even if you are filthy rich, and still want to eat good food. come here too. i love this place and always will.
It’s ok, there are better. I’ve been to this place a few times before and was under the impression that they took credit cards. this is no longer the case, but too late for me and husband. even though there were at least 3 hand written signs about CASH ONLY, we still were left in a lurch. the food is ok, but how often do i have cash in my pockets?
Jld42. Good, solid and inexpensive Vietnamese Food. Wonderful for take our. Not much room in the parking lot, but the food is worth the scramble.
