A Jewel. We chose Il Angelo for a birthday celebration. Every morsel was delectable. The menu is creative and fresh, and the desserts were exquisite.
Great food and service. We are relatively new to the FoxValley area and are having a blast trying out the restaurants. We had been to Apollon (another great spot, right next door) and finally decided to give Il Angolo a try for our anniversary. The appetizer we started with was the Trio of Ceviches, tuna, shrimp and scallop with a wonderful citrus sauce. We elected to have the salad and the greens were chilled and crisp. My husband had the Filet Oscar.. a beautiful piece of beef and after I had a taste, decided it was the best I had ever had, flavorful, tender, true melt in your mouth delicious. Accompanying it were gorgeous steamed vegetables, and delicately seasoned mashed potatoes. I chose the rack of lamb with rosemary and again, the meat was so flavorful and tender. The steamed vegetables and mushrooms provided a nice accent to the lamb. Marco was our server and he was very solicitous and made just the right recommendations for our choices. We took the lava cake home for dessert and haven’t eaten yet, but I’m sure it’s as wonderful as the rest of the meal. The restaurant is tastefully decorated in warm golden hues, with just the right distance between tables.
Wonderful flavors. I love this resteraunt and my extremly picky husband loves it as well. The combination of flavors are supreme! if you love food you will love Il Angelo. It is pricey but worth it, the 45$ course meal is the best value.
Worst dining experience. Dont get their greek fries as they are just frozen fries tossed in feta cheese. The chicken breats are frozen ones and they spinach is also frozen not fresh!!!!! We found the food experience horrible. I will say our waitress was kind and gracious but that didnt make up for the bad food.
Return of Easter Sunday Brunch. We were there for the Easter Sunday brunch. This is the 2nd year in a row that we dedicated our Easter Sunday meal to Il Angolo. I will talk about the wonderful food later, but I need to talk about their waiters/waitresses first. They must have hired these waiters/waitresses on a fly just to serve on a busy Easter Sunday. They are very unprofessional and some of them don’t even speak good English. I get it, that’s okay. It’s brunch and it’s buffet so they really don’t need to speak well English. I can accept that. But how about some table serving etiquette? We got our food from the buffet line and returned to our table to find that we didn’t have any utensils. After complaining to a server and he only brought two sets of utensils with him. We have three people, by the way. And in my opinion, I think that the server should have given one set of the utensils to the lady of the table, which would be me. But I was the last one who got my dining ware. Ok, I get it. Maybe some American restaurants just don’t care about these types of manners. But if I am paying $50 per buffet, I think that I really deserve a better service. The waitress who filled our water glasses spill the water all over the table. I know that she’s new and probably a temp server too, so I am not going to complain about it. But please, if these servers are going to be tipped on a high price meal, let’s make sure that they really understand some serving manners. Now let’s talk about the food. You are not going there to eat big stakes, big nuggets, or big baked potatoes and egg Benedict. You are there because you appreciate their dedication to the food (only if they can put the same effort toward training their waiters/waitress). I really love their fish ceviche cup – fresh and tasty. I also love their candied oranges, very refreshing. The honey soaked orange pieces is a rare find in this area. I also had quite a few butterflied fried shrimp with chipotle sauce. That’s the best chipotle sauce that I have tasted in any Mexican or Spanish restaurants. They pick really fresh shrimp for their dishes. You knew it because they taste very different than the one you get at the grocery store for $5.99/lb. Those grocery shrimp were brine in salt water for a long time or something so they taste very rubbery. But not the ones at Il Angolo’s. Good choice.I also had several fresh shelled oysters. They were okay. A bit too small for my taste. And they were not cold enough. Some of them tasted a bit warm (room temperature) to me. I liked their new fresh tuna with seaweed wrap very much. Good work.Too much meat for me. I asked for a small slice of lamb, but got a big chunk. But they did taste good.I will go back again next year, because I do like their food. And I believe that they carefully choose where their food are coming from. That’s the reason they are charging a high fee for their meals. But again, please hire some experienced waiters/waitresses for events like this. So your guests can be 100% satisfied. ;-)06 May, 2010Unforgettable Sunday Brunch. I was there for the Easter Sunday Brunch and had a great time. A very unique array of cheeses and olives are offered in the buffet. They used to have the Sunday brunch on first Sunday of each month, but I am not sure if they are still doing it.Pricey but worth every dime!
Great Upscale Restaurant. My colleagues and I were traveling thru the area and were looking for a great place to eat along Appleton’s College Ave restaurant row. We stumbled upon this jewel while looking for another restaurant. This place looks like it was newly refurbished – a refined elegant place to eat and enjoy the company of others. We had Goat Cheese spread and brushetta appetizers. Simple, yet yummy and had plenty of bread to go around. I enjoyed my Mediterreanan Grouper – fresh fish with a vegetable topping. My colleagues commented on how rich & delicious the Butternut Sqaush soup was. Their Bacon Wrapped Scallops and Chicken entrees were good too. Portions were ample – we didn’t make it to dessert last night. Oh well, maybe next time!
Awesome food! Great waitstaff!!
