Great main dishes, didn’t try desert ….service also very assertive…priced well, probably less than most places…only complaint would be the seating its a bit clunky more of a bar after thought seating..and yes my girlfriend thought it was much too dark from the outside and entering for dinner…but this is great food and worth the small quirks.
Great German Food!. I loved this place, or at least I loved the food. Our waiter was great. The atmosphere was a too dark and little uninviting. I suppose they are trying to save the food by being a college bar too. I can live with that. The food was divine. I had the sauerbraten. The dish is a little bit overkill in the sense that they use tenderloin. After all, who needs to pickle tenderloin? They could get away with bottom round, if you ask me. That said the taste was good. The spaeztle was done perfectly. My wife had a the jeager schnitzel. It was delightful. Theirs beers nicely compliment your dishes and the waiter was willing to match a beer to your dish. The only person in our party was my mother-in-law, who ordered the grilled shrimp. It was good, but she wished she had what we were having. For dessert we ordered the apple strudel and the bread pudding. Our waiter recommended that we get the cream sauce over the ice cream–he was right. Light and divine. The bread pudding was the real deal, which meant I did not care for it. It had rye bread in it, which was an interesting twist, but not enough of a twist enough to sell me on this dessert. Great place. Go and eat there.
Love this place. Stumbled on it by accident, but it was awesome. Brought back many memories for my hubby from when he lived in Germany! Great place to eat!
The onion soup was average but the bratwurst, Jaeger Schnitzel, and dumplings were good.
Sehr Gut!. My wife and I went there for our one year anniversary since we were engaged in Bavaria at Neu Schwanstein Castle. The food was amazing, loved it. The service was great as well. The beer was good, would be nice to have some German beers like Muchen Hofbrau. The atmosphere was a disappointment though, it was very unauthentic. It looks kind of like a 1970s supper club with the black leather and outdated, cheap chairs. It needs partitions so it’s not so big which takes away from the coziness and quaintness that restaurants have in Germany. Overall, we enjoyed it and the food definitely brought us back to Germany!
What a suprise!. Our regular dinner party of 10-12 (was 11 that night) had a spectacular meal at the Old Bavarian. The Camembert brie was great as an appetizer and the schnitzel was authentic and excellent! The salad bar could be expanded but was very fresh so there is something to be said for that.I didn’t care for the Reuben soup but 4 others raved about it so I can just say it didn’t suit my particular taste. Will be back!!!
Love. This place us amazing. The best in Wisconsin without question.
