A diamond in the rough.At first the sombrero and poncho on the wall was off putting but once we were seated its charm started to warm to me. The waitress was friendly but obviously busy, but there was a large family graduation party going on and still our meals came lightning fast. This usually is when I shudder because it can only mean the dreaded frozen food epidemic, but I was incredibly surprised by my dinner. The lettuce was not limp, the rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned, the refried beans could use a little seasoning themselves but hell at that point it would have been like complaining there is no glitter on your new Lotus Elise sports car. A small imperfection on an otherwise beautiful thing.Simply amazing.Will you be put off by the decor at first? Maybe but don’t be so uptight. This isn’t a fine dining restaurant it’s a place to enjoy a drink, some excellent food and good company. Let your hair down and relax, allow yourself to be charmed by this charming place, because the food will make you fall in love.
Full disclosure: I live a block from this place, so I want it to do well. Lucky for me, on my trip here on a Sunday night, my food, drinks and service were fantastic. I ordered the requisite pork tamales and my dining partner got the chicken chimichangas. Though well prepared, the tamales were too spicy for me. The chimichangas, however, were some of the best I’ve had. The chicken was like what your mother roasts for her Sunday dinner, and the fry on the outside was perfect. The margaritas were strong but fabulous. One is all you need. I’m so proud this restaurant is in my neighborhood!
Very good Mexican Food. Margaritas are great and the salsa is spicy! Im picky about my Mexican food and find most Mexican restaurants to be mediocre. This one is worth checking out. Service is good as well!
First visit last night. Was not impressed at first. We were not seated or waited on quickly even for drinks. Drink order was not right. Then the food came and we were finally smiling. The quality was very good. A simple thing like steak tacos and tostadas were just great. The shredded beef was tasty. I would overlook the service issue because of the adjustment to the new location. I will certainly go back again!
It’s okay. My husband and I have stalked this restaurant for weeks waiting for the doors to open. We decided tonight was going to be our inaugural visit. Location: This restaurant will suffer due to the limited parking in the area. There is street parking but no decent crosswalks and Chase and Oklahoma is a fairly busy intersection. Restaurant: The inside was clean and tidy. It was a little off-putting that a container of cleaning water with rags was sitting within 10 feet of our table. Menu: There are lots of choices on the menu, perhaps a few too many. The font is small and a little difficult to read. Food: We were presented with a small basket of chips and a bowl of salsa. The chips were hearty and were able to withstand the chucky salsa. The salsa was clearly freshly made and had wonderful warmth. Caution on how many chips you eat because a second basket of chips will cost you 75 cents! For drinks we went with the 16oz Margaritas for $4.95. We asked about drink specials or deals and the waitress said there was nothing available (yet at the end of our meal she discussed with a new table of customers how a pitcher was the better deal). My husband ordered the pork burrito meal and I had the three taco meal. My husband thought the pork had a great flavor; however, was disappointed there was no cheese in the burrito and he also encountered several pieces of fat and gristle. The cheese on the beans was also skimpy. I thought my tacos were ok. I had ground beef with flour tortilla, chicken with corn tortilla and pork with corn tortilla. The ground beef was bland. The chicken taco was good. There was a good meat to tortilla ratio and the chicken was well-seasoned. The pork taco had good flavor but again they were skimpy with the meat. We decided to end the meal fried ice cream for $3.00. This was a good way to end dinner. The dessert was a decent portion and was tasty. Overall, we will probably try La Salsa again. There are a couple more items on the menu that we would like to try. The second visit will have to impress us in order to have us back for a third visit.
Great Food. I love this place the food is wonderful and service out of this world there are not any words that can decrible how great this resturant is. They have a neww location and I drive by weekly checking to see when it will open I need my fix does anyone know the grand opening date.
Salsa Verde Is Da Bomb. I had the enchiladas suizas de pollo, which is green tomatillo salsa poured over chicken filled corn tortillas rolled up. Everything was great. The beans were so flavorful, I almost ruined a pair of perfectly good underwear. The rice was good too; good flavor and cooked perfectly. Next time, and YES, there will for sure be a next time, I am going to try the tacos de lomo, which I’m told is very good, and made with steak and guacamole. MMMMMMMM!!!!
